I have an interview coming up with Western University in Pomona, and I have a couple of questions about the school.

1. What kind of interviews do they do? A panel or single interview?

2. What is the school like? Do they have their own hospital?

3. What is the location like?

4. Any advice on what to do and what not to do?

Thanks for your help!

1. I had a single interviewer, but it seems like they might have a panel for other students.
2. The school looks better on the inside compared to the outside. It's a small school, with lots of different health profession students scrunched up in a relatively small area. No, they don't have their own hospital.
3. Location is inland [smoggy] and appears to be a bit on the dirty side. [I'm from coastal OC].
4. Be yourself. It's just like any other interview. And oh yeah, know about osteopathic medicine.

you should check out the interview feedback on the main SDN page

I just had my interview last Thursday, and I think 'pls accept me' said it pretty much on the dot.

The staff and most interviewers seemed pretty laid back, so go in just knowing your things and it should be fine.

note: All the student guides told us not to say that you're a bad test taker... supposedly, they hate that.

I interviewed in September, and didn't quite have the same experience.

-There were two interviewers.

-I got the old good cop-bad cop routine.

-ended up being waitlisted

Beforehand, I heard a lot about the school being in a very bad area, and that the school itself was an old strip mall. Well, that may be true, but I can say that I did like the surrounding areas. The school itself, which did look to be kind of old, had a pretty cool rustic, independant quality to it. It even has a railroad station right next to it. Not sure if the trains still run.

Anyway, good luck.

You should definitely check out the SDN Medical School Interview Feedback questions for practice. As far as location goes, yeah, downtown Pomona is not the most ideal location, but keep in mind that many med schools in the country are located in such areas. And I think the inside of the bldgs. are pretty nice, and clean. Also, there are some really nice nearby areas, and it's Southern Cal...I don't think many places can compare to the wealth of social, recreational, food, entertainment, and etc. opportunities there. There's TONS of places to enjoy nearby. Also, my interview was given by one professor, and it was pretty laid back. They did seem a bit heavy on "ethical type" questions. Good luck!
