Wet Reckless vs DUI
How do schools view a Wet Reckless charge vs a DUI?
This is important because my lawyer has informed me the DA is willing to reduce my DUI charge to a Wet Reckless, if the Wet Reckless charge will increase my chances of gaining admission to medical school compared to a full on DUI charge.
The DUI charge and wet reckless charge are both misdemeanors in my state.

Thanks for any help.
The biggest mistake of my life.. one that i regret and will never repeat. A huge blemish on my otherwise clean record.

I would try to get the wet reckless. Usually it's given as a plea bargain for the DUI instead of going to trial. As for how it will look, both will probably look bad, with wet reckless maybe slightly less bad, but a DUI can absolutely be overcome in the admissions process, if this is the only red flag on your application.

You may want to wait a year or two to apply, do all the alcohol treatment required programs etc., and show that you have truly learned from the mistake. All you can do now is move forward, make sure it doesn't happen again, and work hard to make your dream come true.

Both look bad, but reducing a DUI charge is a step in the right direction.

Search these threads for how people dealt with this type of legal issue and admissions. You may find some good tips (or be scared to death, don't worry, it doesn't look good but it's not a complete deal breaker).

Maybe take a few years off, get an awesome gpa, rock the MCAT, gather some killer ECs, you can still get in.

Both will look bad. If at all possible, I would try to get deferred adjudication that will result in dismissal of charges without conviction after completing a probationary period and community service. I would think this would be the best possible outcome.

If that's not an option then take the plea deal or fight the original charge (i.e. plead not guilty if there's any possibility that it could get thrown out) then hope to get it expunged down the road if you're convicted.

Good luck.

I would plead guilty to being wet and reckless in a wet t-shirt contest. I assume that is what being wet and reckless is - we don't have that charge where I am from, Oregon. But if you are a girl, being wet and reckless, will be understood as being young and stupid, but if you are a guy, well, you have no business being in a wet t-shirt contest and deserve the consequences.
