Do you guys think that NYU's large class size has a negative impact on your experience? thanks

I've never understood why this is even a question? With more students we have more faculty. It's not like you're waiting in longer lines in clinic to have a faculty member look at your prep. Also, with more faculty you have more choices -- if you don't work well with faculty "A" you can find someone else who better fits your learning style. You're not "stuck" with a single opinion. Also, the school itself has to have the resources available to support such a large student body -- this means large, active, and well-regarded pg programs, research, and extracurricular activities.

The only time size becomes an issue is when the administration tries to maintain across-the-board standards. You have to crawl through red tabe sometimes and, while I'm sure it's necessary with so many students and I don't know what students at other schools experience, it can be annoying at times. Paperwork... bleh!

This was definitely true at Temple too. The primary complaint of our D4 student guide was that there were a lot of regulations and faculty checks designed for 'caution' on the part of slower students. These apparently cannot be circumvented even if you feel very comfortable with the material.

So I don't think annoying red tape is NYU specific.

EDIT: I personally like a larger class size, simply because it allows for a bigger mix-up of people. You're bound to meet a group of people that think in similar ways and adjust to similar mores that you do, simply by the random distribution. We all talked to students during our lunches, did any of them mention class size as a particular problem?

The student just mentioned that if you're not the proactive do-er type then you might just get lost in the crowd and not get the notice/attention that you need.

Honestly, even if you are the quietest person, the faculty will notice you and even know your name sometimes and motivate you to interact...I love the faculty and just about everything here and I'm not the loud or proactive kind at all...
I love the class size! I really like meeting people from so many different backgrounds...some are parents, some are this, some are that, it's absolutely fun and very rewarding to see everyone going through D1 together and surviving...

also, the larger class size gives you the option of learning how to work with different groups of people, if you like working/studying on your own (mostly what I do), that's completely fine, if you like working in groups, you'll find that too...

also, lol...honestly sometimes I don't even notice how big of a class we are, you end up knowing all the faces and a lot of names of people and because you're split in groups, you end up knowing the group you are mostly with well enough to interact if you need anything..
