What advice from Psych doc's??

Hi there, I am an IMG that is seeking to get into psych residency. I am preparing for step 1 and trying to come up with letters of reccommendations from Psych docs. I googled psych docs in the area and called some up. I told the secretary that I want to meet with the Psych doc and ask her a few questions? SHe called me back in 1hr and set up a appt for next week. What questions should I ask the Psych doc? I really want to shadow her? How do I go bout asking her? What else should I be sure to ask her?

You should ask her the questions you honestly want to know the answers too. 🙂 It's always better to be genuine, I think. Some questions I would think would be good to know would be how her day is structured, what kind of patients does she see, does she do therapy or med management only, what does she like and not like about her job and maybe how she decided that psychiatry was for her. If you want to shadow, just ask. She may say no because of confidentiality concerns, but it never hurts to ask.
