You're fine.Hello,
I am about to start a postbac program that will last from fall 2019 - spring 2021.
I am trying to make sure that I use those two years to make my application as competitive as possible, outside of doing well in class and on the MCAT.
Below is a general overview of what my CV already includes. I am interested in what I should focus on for the next 2-3 years for the best shot at acceptance to a top school.
Undergrad: psychology, political science, and French (minor). Honors college. 3.58 gpa. Graduated a year early. Public university.
M.Ed 3.92 gpa
Two year (completed commitment) with Teach for America
2200+ hours of research experience, one publication (public health) and two abstracts (1 neuropsychology, 1 developmental follow-up)
About 500 hours of shadowing in pediatric neurology and pediatric neuropsychology
6 months as a clinical care intern (~100 hours) in telemetry and pediatric departments
President of the pre-med literary circle at my original postbac (1 year)
I am training this summer to be a court appointed special advocate for kids in foster care, which I will be doing for the next 3 years.
Hoping to start a club at my new postbac that merges with one at my old postbac to assist in running a clinic once a month in Mexico
Cons
- I started a postbac elsewhere, but it was too expensive. I took a year off to work (in research) and will be attending a smaller, more affordable program.
- I have a few things transcript wise to explain (one W in college due to medical reasons, one W and an F (turned A) in my master's also due to medical reasons, and one W in my original postbac). It didn't cause any issues when I applied to postbac programs and I understand that doing well academically in the new postbac is a top priority, but do these spots on my transcript ruin my chances at being considered a strong candidate?
