My application just completed yesterday and I saw how they calculated my GPAs. Let me tell you they aren't pretty. It goes 1.64 , 2.84 , 3.37 , 3.57 for each of my college years.

During my first 2 years I was a computer science major until I switched to bio.

Biology which they have as 3.59 for 32 credits is not bad. But as for my inorganic and physics gpas they are quite low due to science courses as a computer sci major. What I don't understand is most of these courses were non premed courses. For example physics was broken down into 3 parts and was not the simple 2- 4 credit class that premeds take. I retook these when I swithced and had an A and a C . Should I have used the repeat on these ? I didn't think I could since they were totally different courses.

They calculated my over all as being 2.96 but my BCPM came out lower than I thought because of those science classes I took as a computer science major - 2.78. I applied to 16 programs and I have an MCAT score from last year which is a 20 (8,4,8). I retook it again this august and should have at least a 24. Do he schools get to see your transcripts? I took alot of advance bio courses, tell me that they will at least see that I performed well in tough courses like histo, cell bio, micro, etc.

I see that you are posting in the Pre-DO forum, but you mention BCPM. There is no BCPM with AACOMAS. Math is not counted in the equation. Perhaps you meant BCP.

As far as your chances, apply to most of the DO schools, but omit the more difficult state schools, such as TCOM, OSU-COM, and MSU-COM.

Yes, of course they will see your transcripts if you send them.

It may be a long shot, but you won't know unless you try.

Do I send the transcripts with my secondary or do they ask for it ? I guess AACOM does not send them to the schools do they?

Send the transcripts directly to all of the schools. You don't have to wait for them to ask. They can even be sent before your secondary.

Is this protocol to do this because i will get on this right away.

I have never heard of sending transcripts directly to the schools - - I was under the impression that AACOMAS sends transcripts with the primary. I have 6 secondaries so far and none of them mention sending a transcript directly to the school.

Anyone else have any input on this topic??

Thanks for the info because i was afraid that I wasted my time taking courses to impress adcoms when I could have just done some basic stuff and get a 4.0. One last question, can I send non offical transcripts because its going to cost me to send officials to all these schools. I spread my course work over a few schools - 5 to be exact - so getting officals will add up quickly for 16 programs.

Also, should I do this for MD schools to? I have already given up in terms of trying for US allopathic schools I applied to 32 programs and I got back 20 secondaries. I know that its all about the money with some schools.

1. Official transcripts only. They will not accept unofficial.
2. Yes, you should do this for allopathic schools too if you plan on continuing with that, althought I don't think you'd get into an allopathic school.

As far asI know, transcripts are sent to AACOMAS and AAMCAS. They send them to the schools as part of the packet.

The secondaries give you instructions as to what to send. I wold read over the secondaries before sending anything.

Don't forget to send transcripts to individual schools if courses are completed after submission of the application. The schools will require those as well.

The official transcripts don't get sent to the school but all the classes appear on your profile and are verified by AACOMAS.

Out of the 7 schools I applied to them, NONE of them ask for you official transcripts before an acceptance. 😕

I completed a course this summer after my AACOMAS submission and verification. I contacted schools about updating my transcript and they said DO NOT send them the transcript. You must mail an OFFICIAL transcript to AACOMAS and they will verify it, recalculate your GPAs, and mail a new profile to your schools within a couple weeks.

I was required to send the transcript directly to the school. I was told on the interview day that my application was incomplete until I did that, and I believe this to be one of the reasons I was rejected from that particular school.

Once you have been invited to interview, AACOMAS is no longer involved. It is between you and the school. At least this is how it worked back when I applied.

You do not send official transcripts to the individual schools. You send official transcripts to AACOMAS for verification and the schools only see your AACOMAS application, your LORs, and your secondary if they request one (sometimes you can send in you CV also). After you are accepted to a school THEN you need to send the official transcript directly to that school for enrollment purposes. In all honesty, with that GPA you need to do much better on the MCAT to be competitive. Take care
