i looked at my first year schedule and i'll basically be in school from 8-5. i was wondering what to expect at night after class. is it just reviewing and studying the day's lectures/notes or is it trying to read the textbooks and learn the material? thanks

That depends on what school you attend. For me it was reviewing powerpoint slides given to us by the professor/studying the syllabus.

I did little reading of the textbooks, although I certainly did some, especially when I wanted clarification on subjects or further information.

were the exams basically all the material from the lectures? or were you also responsible for some stuff from the textbooks?

All our exams were from lecture/powerpoint/monographs.

I havent bought a single textbook in dental school. I would tell you that if I had really tried hard I would probably be somewhere in the top ten. But (and this is depepdent on the school as Gavin already mentioned) if you just follow what your upper classmen tell you, you should be fine

I agree. I went home after getting out of school at 4ish and ate dinnner. Then I would study from about 6-10, then on weekends restudied all that material. It worked out ok, but it sure gets old!
