[FONT=굴림][FONT=굴림]Hi! To introduce myself a but, I am a bachelor degree holder (specializing Life Science) from University of British Columbia..

[FONT=굴림]I have been very interested in studying in Podiatric Medicine in your college..

[FONT=굴림]If you could, please give me detailed informaiton about 'my chances'?.

[FONT=굴림]My DAT score is 18 (TS 20, AA18, QR16 RC16 BIO 20 OR 20 GC 20) .
(TS is total science avg which is equivalent to 91 percentaile..)

[FONT=굴림]However, I did MCAT once but I got 18.... which is very low... so I am planning to.
[FONT=굴림]retake it soon. .

[FONT=굴림]Currently, my cumulative GPA from UBC is low which is .[FONT=굴림]2.5 due to very low grades from 1st and 2nd, and 3rd.[FONT=굴림] year. However, my GPA from 4rd and 5th and 6th year are good!.

[FONT=굴림]In my 6th year, I was even listed in Dean's Honor list for high GPA in 4th year!.
[FONT=굴림](means 6th year ave is over 80 percent).

[FONT=굴림]I have over 1300 hours of volunteer.. so.. yah.. please give me some ture advise...

If I do Special Master Program at Barry University (Biomedical Science), and get over 3.7, would I have a chance to get in?

[FONT=굴림]Thank you! .

[FONT=굴림]Thank you very much!.

[FONT=굴림]and Have a good day!.

Dude you are posting in the wrong section. This needs to be moved to what are my chances section.

I would say that you have no chance of getting into a MD school, but just maby if you are lucky, a DO school might accept you. Your MCAT score is WAY..... to low.

Just because there's an ad for SGU on the top of the website doesn't mean SDN represents the university...and I'm confused, are you Pre-Dental or Pre-Med?

Edit: Good God man you've posted this in like 4 different forums on here...

yah.. I just want to know my possibilities after doing SMP
I really want to be a healthcare professional..
Thank you for your concern..

OOOH Harrison College, what are my chances there ... oh wait, it's UTMemphis now, what are my ... GAH!!!! SGU what .... Oh **** it, I give up.

First, I am aiming for St.George's University (MD) however,

if that's is not possible for me at all, I want to go for podiatric medicine..

I know nothing's easy but I want to see my possibility after doing SMP

at Barry University..

Again, health care encompasses dentistry, podiatry, and medicine. Which field are you going for?

1. Decide what you want to do. Going into an SMP with an ambivalent attitude towards medicine or podiatry is dumb and a waste of time.

2. Retake the MCAT. even SGU won't accept you with a 18. Honestly, SGU is more competitive to get into, with an average MCAT ~26-27 than most podiatry schools in the US.

3. Do well in your SMP

4. Profit $$$

appreciated ur thoughts

Looking at your stats...

You have to realize medical school is HARD and you have to have good basic foundations and work ethics to make it through...

Im not saying people who did not do well as an UG cannot get better but chances are slim and even if you do get in med school will be even harder as your peers have been working that hard for a long time...not only US MD but also Caribbean tend to have a 3.0+ and a 25-27+ MCAT

-Life is a bell curve someone has to be on the tail 🙁

BUT

Having said this if you are really motivated and if I were you id take the non-trad route, I would get some post-bac research and try to get into a good top 70 graduate program and from there on you can start to set things right get a great grad GPA 3.7 - 3.8+

AND you might want to take pre med classes again (the one you did not do well in) and you might have a chance of getting into a US MD program

-Good Luck 🙂

Dude above all else an 18 on the MCAT is quite frankly a crappy score. To be competitive in the US you need at least a 28, and for caribbean schools at least a 26.

SGU's average is around a 3.4/24. Every other school in the Carib is basically going to require just a pulse. Podiatry schools are around 3.3/21 averages however I'd rather do podiatry as they have a high residency rate and they make more. Versus SGU which is very low on the residency acceptances.

Btw to get into a SMP you need a 30+ on the mcat.

Feet have teeth.
Am I doing it rite?

that is beyond false. please refrain from giving out unqualified advice, i thought we talked about this?

Alright you need a 'good' mcat. Or maybe he should retake the dat and apply to podiatry school. Refer to your avatar.

Here are the requirements for the SMP at Barry:
http://www.barry.edu/bms/admissions/Default.htm
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a record of satisfactory academic work at the baccalaureate and/or graduate level.
Satisfactory and current scores must be submitted from the Graduate Record Examination (verbal, quantitative, and analytical portions); totaling at least 1,000. MCAT, DAT and other standardized test scores at or above the 50th percentile may be considered.

  • Admission to the 1 year program requires GRE scores totaling 1,000 or MCAT scores totaling at least 24, or DAT scores of at least 18 with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Admission to the 18-month/2 year program requires GRE scores totaling 1,000, or MCAT scores totaling at least 20, or DAT scores of at least 16 with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better.
  • Admission to the Research program requires GRE scores totaling 1,000, or MCAT scores totaling at least 18, or DAT scores of at least 15 with an undergraduate GPA of 2.7 or better.
Eight semester hours each in general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics with a "C" or better;
Six semester hours in English;
Three letters of recommendation (at least two letters from recent science instructors) or a Health Professions Advisory Report;
A personal statement describing future goals;
A copy of your resume
A personal interview is strongly recommended
Assuming your GPA is above 2.7, with an 18 MCAT, you would barely meet qualifications for the research program (not qualified for the other 2 programs) (you still need to be admitted).

no you can even have a terrible mcat. depends on your situation. go back to your corner, and re: your last line,

Let me get this straight - the OP is interested in studying podiatry at SGU? I didn't even know that SGU had a podiatry program... 😕

Btw, OP - if you're looking for info about SMPs, there's a useful thread in the Non-trad section of SDN.

EDIT: I just noticed that you're planning on retaking the MCAT AND the DAT soon. If you're not trolling (and that is somewhat debatable), you'd probably be better off focusing on one or the other.

It does read a bit like an email from a certain Nigerian prince...

I think this guy is lost.
