Hello,
I am new to the forum. I have been looking around the forum for thread like "what are my chance" . I know I might sound like a broken record to some of you but I want to set a goal for myself. I am just wonder about my chance of getting in DO. I am Junior at UCI. I will have, by the time of application, one year of biological research coupled with leadership experience , 1 summer as chemistry tutor, half a year as an intern in marine protection program for City of Newport Beach, a year as an intern as a transfer mentor for UCI extension which provides leadership experience as well, and about a year volunteer at hospital. I will also try to fit in another year of community service. Assuming I have all that along with GPA 3.5 and reasonable high mcat score (about 29-30 for old exam as I am not sure about the score for new mcat). I wonder what is my chance of getting in at least one DO school .

If you score at that range for the MCAT you will be good for do programs and even some md programs outside of CA that aren't tied to their state.

I suggest shadowing physicians especially a DO before you apply next cycle and getting an LOR from such in order to fulfill many of the DO requirements for a physician LOR.

It depends on what specialty. You may see a difference in DO and MD care in the primary care settings. You WILL see a difference if you shadow a DO who specialized in NMM and OMM practice (the largest difference in training between md and do docs)

You should shadow a do so you know how they practice and to give you an idea of why you want to be a do as well. The best experience is to shadow them.

Shadow a DO. It is different because schools will ask you why Osteopathic medicine and it helps to answer that question by referencing your experience observing a DO. Also, some schools require DO LOR.

You are on the right track. Make sure you get 200+ volunteer gours and 30+ shadowing hours. The more is better

Concur.
