What are my chances? 3.74 cGPA, 3.73 sGPA, 22P

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have already submitted my application to 4 MD and 6 DO schools but due to the low MCAT (7PS/6VR/9BS), some have suggested that I withdraw my application or retake the MCAT in August/September. I called a few of the DO schools today and they said to definitely not withdraw my application if I have good ECs (3 years university tutor, 4 yr varsity athlete & captain, 100 hrs medical and non-medical volunteering inside and outside of the States, 60 hrs shadowing MD and DO, summer math REU). Even though I was sick the first time I took the test, I am concerned that if I try to take the MCAT again I'd be putting too much pressure in a short amount of time to improve my score. I'm thinking I could continue with my app as it stands now since I have already paid for everything or retake the test...ideas?
Your chance at MD schools is nonexistent right now, but I've read rare reports in the PreMedOsteo Underdog thread about folks with a 22 MCAT getting an acceptance to DO. You might read it through and see if you've applied to the less-selective schools that might consider you, and add them on, if not.

OTOH, a late MCAT retake isn't going to hurt you at many DO med schools (most even consider a January score). There are even a few MD schools (depending on your state) where an October MCAT release date isn't a death sentence.

I encourage you to retake the test to have the best shot at a school you'll be happy to attend.

I agree with above but would like to emphasize the word "rare." Don't plan on it happening to you because I have seen many with 23s and 24s that are unsuccessful. Plan on a retake.

Take some time to thoroughly study for the test. I think what's important to keep in mind is that timewise, there is not rush for medical school. I hate to repeat myself through a lot of these threads, but if you have a substandard MCAT, take your time to make the score better. This is for two reasons:

1) If you apply with lower stats, you'll probably have to apply to many schools, just to see if anyone will bite. This will be expensive. Why apply and burn through that money just because...?😕

2) Having lower stats means you'll have to reapply should you not get in, and let's be honest-statistically, you're already fighting an uphill battle anyway. There is a decent chance you may have to reapply, which means updated LORs, new PS, perhaps retaking the exam (because you finally saw with your own eyes that perhaps nobody might bite), and waiting another year in anxiety.

So, to avoid that, just spend as much time you need to master the MCAT. your GPA isn't horrible but by not putting your best foot forward, you diminish your odds at getting accepted in general, and who is to say that the school you get accepted to, is the school that will best cultivate your talents as a physician?

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm leaning towards a retake in the end of August/beginning of September.
