I received my B.A. at Calif. State Univ. Long Beach
Major: Human Development
Minor: Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies
Overall GPA: 2.8
I got C's in all my pre-req's so far (Psychology, Sociology, Statistics)
I'm currently volunteering at a rehab center and plan to do more hours else where. I also plan to study really hard for the GRE's as well as the rest of my pre-req's.

What are my chances of getting into CSUDH, USC, or any OT master's programs in California? I've also considered NYU?

You want to make yourself as competative as you can so try getting A's in the rest of your Pre-Reqs. Also, if you can take even one of those pre-reqs that you got a C in--do it! It will only help your GPA & your chances of getting into a program. As for the GRE--most require above a 1000 (except CSUDH--they want above 800 I think), so try aiming for that and again, the higher the better. With most of the schools in California, you have an opportunity to shine through a personal statement (again--the department at CSUDH does not require one, but you can submit one during your application to the university). Are you going to be applying this year? I know the deadline for CSUDH has already passed.

Thank you so much. I'm planning to finish my pre-req's and take my GRE's by next year. I'm not quite sure when to apply but as soon as I'm done with everything I need. Would you happen to know the deadline for CSUDH?

Deadline was sept 15 because their program starts in January. One of the schools I am applying to - Dominican University (nor cal) does not require a GRE I believe--you can try your chances there. I know Samuel Merrit does not take GRE scores either, but their deadline might have passed. You can always re-apply next year if you don't get in so theres no harm in trying.

Don't most of those schools require a min. 3.0 gpa to be considered?

If i apply next year but I'm in the process of taking one last pre-req will I still be considered? or do I have to be completely finished with all my pre-req's?
Thank you for answering my questions

For many schools, you can have 1/2 in progress when you apply. However, you would have to have finished them by the beginning of the program.

Contact the schools themselves and ask the OTs you work with for advice. Are you still in SoCal? If so, too bad, because if you weren't I might suggest the COTA route, but Santa Ana College has a three year wait list. I'm a CSULB alum as well and I'm starting the Santa Ana program in the fall. USC told me I had a chance, but I'm not applying there. I'm waiting for a CSUDH rejection, hopefully in a couple of weeks, that way I know I made the alternate list, but who knows, I could get rejected today. I had a 2.9 in undergrad and I got a C in physiology, but I got B's in everything else and a 4.5 writing 1130 overall. Ace A&P and aim for 1000+ on the GRE. Also I believe Dominican University requires the GRE. Good luck to you! Go 49ers! I will say this again because I think it is important, contact the schools themselves and ASK the OTs you work with for advice.

I don't want to be a Debbie downer, but look for the minimum gpa requirements for each school u want to go to. Also check the prereq gpa requirement. At csudh, u r required to have a 3.0 cum gpa in prereqs. So those C's will do u no good since u currently have a 2.0. Like a previous poster said, try to redo those courses. To really be competitive (since u have a below 3.0 undergrad, u want to get As in all ur prereqs.

Good luck!

Both CSUDH and USC mention that sub 3.0 GPAs can be admitted in some circumstances. I was put on the alternate list for CSUDH with a sub 3.0 pre-req and a sub 3.0 overall. However, ace your pre-reqs and do awesome on the GRE
