@Goro, we've got a pretty unusual guy here. If he gets eyeballs on his app the low GPA is likely to be forgiven; there aren't many Black firefighter veterans with perfect MCAT scores. That being said, the sub-3.0 GPA might get auto-screened out. @LizzyM, maybe you could also offer some advice here?

Start list with WashU and radiate outwards. Any school is yours. Be sure to include the HBCs, including UCLA/Drew, and U ILL

Some schools will have a policy of putting eyeballs on every URM candidate. Some schools may, likewise, have a similar policy for military veterans and/or perfect MCAT scores. Anyway you slice it, if this guy truly exists, he's likely to generate a lot of interest anywhere he chooses to apply.

I'm not a veteran, I'm an E-2 in the Army Reserve 68W. It helped supplement pay and I had dreams of being an army physician. Maybe even using the HPSP and yes I really exist.

Just wanted to stop and say respect for sticking through all that. Tell your story in your app and you have a great shot at the top schools. Best of luck fam!

I suggest these schools with your stats:

Rush
Medical College Wisconsin
Indiana
Oakland Beaumont

You will need to apply broadly due to your low GPA but some schools will be interested with your MCAT of 528.

Network through SNMA to get better insight on the schools high on your wish list, especially if you want to know about support as a single parent med school student. Talk with diversity administrators at the medical schools as well.

Keep your HPSP contact close to you. If you get that scholarship, your path to any medical school becomes a super-highway.

@Goro might have some top schools like Columbia and UCSF that reward reinvention; OP would be well served having those on his list. If he's feeling a bit bold, he might apply to top-20 schools, his state schools, and HBCUs; if he's feeling more cautious he might trade about ten of those top-20s for mid-tiers.

As I pointed out, OP Is golden

How exactly does one begin networking with SNMA? I was not aware of them until today.

I can't do your homework. Website searches and connections with current students even through SDN or in the URM in medicine forum here could help you.

You ought to know them, and these organizations can be very influential to your career progression for the rest of your life.
