Hello SDN Fam,

I am approaching the application process and i would like some guidance on a potential school list.

CGPA: 3.82
SGPA: 3.75
URM: Y, AA
Veteran: Y, 5 years United States Navy
EC: 2 years research chemistry-physics lab 2 posters ACS awardee, volunteer at a pediatric rehabilitation center for ~2 years
Shadowing: 200 hours internal medicine 50 hours emergency medicine 8 hours shadowing PA in Gastroenterology 40 hours Family Practice Physician
MCAT: Pending Summer 17' (Taking more courses)
Misc: Dream Location California, Residency: NC

The advice everyone gives you is largely going to depend on your MCAT score. You have a very strong application as is and being URM and a veteran (thank you for your service!) will only help bolster your application.

What is your home state? You should apply to all schools in your home state.
If you're OOS for CA, it will be much harder (not impossible, just harder) to land an acceptance from a CA school. It will only happen if you apply there so I'd say apply to all those schools if you can afford it.
The rest of your list will be determined by your MCAT score. You should ideally aim for a 512+ and I think you'd be golden pretty much anywhere.

Good luck!

Thank you for your feedback my home state is NC, I've been debating on switching my residency to FL because this is where i go to school.

NC has some really great (and cheap!) IS options. Florida has a LOT of IS med schools. I would just research the schools in each state and decide which location you'd be happier with. With a good MCAT score, I'd be shocked if you didn't get love from IS options, so you should approach those schools with the idea of "if I didn't get in anywhere but my IS options...where would I be happiest?"

We can help you construct a school list once you have an MCAT score. Everything else looks great though
