What are my chances of acceptance? (need specific advice)

What changed between now and the first time he applied? I would say that his GPA and DAT need to be raised to be competitive in Texas even as a Texas resident. His ECs are solid though so that is great! Also, adcom won't look down on the fact that he took the MCAT. I took it once too and put that on my app and it never got brought up in my interviews. I'm not sure which OOS schools he should apply to because I didn't look into OOS schools when I applied but I know some people from undergrad who had similar stats that are going to NYU, MWU-Illinois, and UNLV.

Where did he go to undergrad?
 
Does he have to disclose he TOOK the MCAT? I always thought it was if people applied to med school they had to report..

Yes, he can still raise his GPA. Graduating does not mean that he CAN'T take classes. There are lots of options for gpa.

No, you don't. The only question the AADSAS application states is: "Have you previously, or are you currently applying to a health profession school other than dental school?"

does he need to raise his GPA though? is it really so terrible? he messed up 2 classes, but he still has lots of A's in the prerreqs. JW...
 
His GPA isn't too bad, it's right around average for TX. He needs to do well on the DAT though.
Why isn't he asking btw?

Dude that's a question I can't answer. It's so random, ya know? Getting a 25AA might still not get him an interview based on the tons of other factors in his application.
GPA is not bad, ECs are good. Just have him shoot for the best he can do. A rockin personal statement can't hurt either.
 
OP, your brother NEEDS to do much better on the third try on the DAT.... I don't think the one point difference between his first and second try is impressive.
 
I don't think he needs to retake the DAT, I've seen people with lower DAT scores get in with these forums. If he is URM, it can also help as well.

It's hard to say. Based on what I've seen with myself and other people that I know who applied and got accepted/denied, I don't think his GPA is good enough to get in with his current DAT trend. Just because you graduated doesn't mean you can't raise your GPA though. You can still take and retake classes to improve your GPA. His DAT would need to significantly improve for him to have decent shot, imo. My pre-dent group in undergrad had representatives from all 3 Texas schools come and talk to us about admissions and I remember all of their presentations saying that the average GPAs for admitted students was around 3.6-3.7 or somewhere around there (and increasing every year) and the average DAT is around 20-21 (and has apparently been increasing over the years). There are a lot of other factors that are taken into consideration when adcom decides who they accept (personal statement, LOR, background, URM, etc) . It's competitive and there are no set numbers that really guarantee anyone admission.

he is already studying to retake the DAT, he doesnt want to take chances and really wants to get into tx dent, hopefully to the same one i was accepted to, yeah we r both from first gen, low income background...idk if that matters.

I see, what doesn't he want to take a chance with? His GPA? I'm kind of confused by what you're saying and I don't really know why you're asking us these questions for him if you're already in a TX dental school....I would think that since you've gone through the whole application process and were accepted, you would know what kind of credentials someone needs to be competitive in TX. Good luck to him on his DAT.

thats the thing, i was accepted with high stats, so idk about him, he asked all the admissions ppl in tx, they said there is no red flags in his app. so not sure...why no interviews.
he doesnt want to take a chance with his gpa.

he doesnt want to take a chance with his gpa and 19 AA. it was his math section, he got 20 across all other sections in DAT.

Are you two twins? Also has he looked into Baylor's post bacc?

Yeah he can get in without post bacc. If I were him I would apply OOS just in case. We can't really say if he will get in for sure. We can't see the future but if he apply's broadly with a 20+ He will get in somewhere.
