Hi, guys! Here's a breakdown of my DAT scores and my background. I need you to let me know if I have a good shot at dental school.

I'm a Microbiology major with a Spanish minor. Part of the Honors Program. Done a lot of volunteer work and been part of 4 organizations at the University. Participated in 2 researches; received 1 publication. Got some shadowing experience with a local dentist. Interned at a Microbiology-related job.

PAT - 19
QR - 14
RC - 20
Bio - 18
GC - 17
OC - 19
TS - 18
AA - 18

GPA - 3.27
Science GPA - 3.3

What are my chances of getting into dental school with these scores and credentials? What about just the DAT scores?

GPA and DAT are little below average. You should continue taking classes and increase GPA and retake DAT with 20+. Or else it will be really hard to get in unless you have something else that makes you extraordinary.

Any DAT section below 15, you wont have much luck. I have been through it and schools will tell you the same.

I would re-take DAT if I were you. And apply early! 🙂

Thank you all for your advice. I understand it's not as high as what dental schools want it to be. I was hoping schools would be more lenient toward my DAT scores since I put a lot of effort into extracurricular and research activities. But who knows. I'll give it my best shot.

Thanks, again. Good luck to you all!!

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I was accepted into dental school (C/O 2014) with similar scores (GPA & DAT), but a ton of dental experience. Apply! It's worth a try, plus you can work towards improving your scores for the following year if you don't get in the 1st time around. Good luck!

With a lower GPA, you need higher DAT's. You want 20+ and apply early.

Thanks all for sharing!

I shadowed a dentist for a month. Is that sufficient?

You have great ECs, and it's impressive how you have a publication out, too. That alone makes you special as an applicant
