Hey everyone,

I just finished my second round of the DAT an hour ago.

The first time I took it I got:

PAT: 22
QR: 17
RC: 19
Bio: 17
GC: 21
OC: 20
TS: 19
AA: 19

This time around I barely improved but killed OC.

PAT: 22
QR: 17
RC: 20
Bio: 17
GC: 21
OC: 29 (Dafuq?!)
TS: 20
AA: 21

For the life of me I couldn't improve Bio and QR. I honestly did my best to memorize that stuff. However, although I scored average, two of my letters of rec are coming from bio professors. I had issues with low grades my undergrad but have been taking/retaking some classes and getting B+/A. What do you think my chances are? Should I take it again? Your opinions/advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT:

BTW!!! I have 83 days left (purchased subscription on 3/29/15) on DAT Bootcamp if anyone wants to buy the rest of the time left on it!!! Usually $117 but I'll sell it to you for $80. Let me know ASAP!

Wow 29 Ochem!
Congratulations, I personally think your DAT is good, but it would depend on your GPA.

What sources did you use for studying and which did you find most representative?
Especially for Ochem! That is an outstanding ochem score and a pretty good improvement overall. Could you elaborate on what you did differently the second time? It's always nice seeing posts about how people improved their score through different studying methods.

Well, I haven't checked my recent GPA but the last time I checked it was a meager 3.1. However, since then I have taken 3 science courses plus a lab and performed well. Two bio professor are writing me stellar letters so I hope that's going to help. I am going to take BioChem this summer so that will also help.

I did Chad's videos for studying but I also had an awesome Ochem tutor undergrad. I kept all my notes and used those in conjunction with Chads. I made tons of flash cards and reviewed them everyday until I could recite rxns and reagents in my sleep. DAT Bootcamp was all I used for practice exams. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is very representative of the real thing. I did, however, score multiple 22s and one 24 in ochem (when I retook them I got up to a 30). I also scored a 19/20 for bio and ended up with 17 again :/ . I used Destroyer and went though the individual math destroyer book (but I suck under pressure for math) and both ochem and chem destroyer once. Write down all the extra rxns from these books as they are not mentioned by Chad. One problem I had on the Ochem section of the DAT had the almost exact same question (regarding what Tollen's reagent tests positive for, which are aldehydes and some other funky structure I don't remember the name of). Also one of the DAT Bootcamp QR passages was on the exam so that made it easier to score a 20. I also used Ferrali's Bio notes and went over them at least 4-5x (still don't know why I did so poorly). I know this was a mouthful but I hope it helps. I used DAT Bootcamps study guide the first time around but the second time I just reviewed the hell out of my notes and did Destroyer problems.

EDIT:

Sorry, I actually went through Destroyer 2x total (once the first time and once the second). I made notes for each weird reaction or problem in destroyer and reviewed them in conjunction with Chad. Sorry if my post is redundant.

From what I know they look for an upward trend, so keep up the good work 🙂
Sorry to ask so many questions, but my DAT is soon and I'm extremely nervous, so please bear with me!
Was the GC calculations similar to Chad's quizzes or Destroyer?
For any of the sciences were there any lab questions?
For QR did they give conversions?
Also, what do you mean "one of the DAT Bootcamp QR passages"? Did you mean RC?

Thank you

No worries. I was in the same boat. The thing I can say is to take a breath and compose yourself between each section. Once you get to the actual exam there is nothing you can do but relax. Getting tense/anxious/nervous only works against you. Easier said than done. The GC sections of DAT Bootcamp are the most similar to the exam. Destroyer is overkill in each section but helps keep you on your toes. I think the extra difficulty makes the actual exam much easier. The first time I took QR it was hard as hell and gave zero conversions. The second time I took the exam the QR section was so much easier and gave conversions. The downside was because it was easier that meant you could NOT miss many questions or else you'd get a lower score. Which is what apparently happened.

Sorry, I meant an RC passage from DAT Bootcamp was on the actual exam. It was about H. Pylori.
