I am looking at applying to DO schools for fall 2014.
However I'm not so sure of my MCAT score ( my second time taking it after studying three months with a PR course) first MCAT score 19N - 6V, 5P, 8B
second time - 21; 6V, 7P, 8B
3.59 cGPA and 3.2 sGPA

Suggestions?

Thanks

You must retake the mcat and aim for 24+ to have a shot... 21 mcat is too low even for the newer schools.

You might have luck at a few schools, but I'm not too confident. You'd be auto-rejected at mine.

Try the new schools

Hey bud I'm in a similar situation as you are, I scored less than my avg on the MCAT and others as well are telling me not to retake in aug and just apply. I scored 5 points less than my avg and scored a 25 on the real thing. I'm applying DO as well, and as a heads up you may want to try and get a letter of rec from a DO in your area as some schools require one for apps. Best of luck to you bud!

Yeah, I would consider retaking it again and trying to raise that MCAT score. Your GPA is fine. Your cGPA is in the right range and although I would say a higher sGPA would benefit you, its not terribly low either.

You can always try and apply. There is always a chance and your numbers are not impossible, but you will have a difficult time. Also consider that the process is very expensive too. I'd say stick with Goro's advice. I of course secretly admire him/her from afar 😍

If you do not get in this cycle though. I would say push hard for that 24 MCAT you want. Try studying under pressure with a time limit if that's your issue (Which is very common). Or just work on knowing the content a little better. You can do it, you just have to put in more time unfortunately. In addition to this try retaking some of your lowest science courses that you are confident that you can do better in. If you can change any of those grades to a B+ or an A then you will be very well off. An even higher GPA can help makeup for issues on the MCAT. The fantastic thing about AACOMAS is that they do grade replacement. So it is easy to have an epic comeback!

Good luck!

I graduated from college 6mo ago and will be taking this next year off. According to my advisors when I was in school, it wasn't necessary retaking the two classes I made a C since I had already taken higher level courses; I'm thinking I'll go ahead and apply but also take the MCAT one more time
