Hello All

I am a recent graduate of Washington State University with a degree in Psychology. I will be applying to to occupational therapy school for fall 2014 admissions. I am only worried that my gpa will hurt my chances. I graduated with a 3.46 gpa. During one semester, I got one C in anatomy and another C+ in the anatomy lab because I was dealing with major family problems. I retook those classes and ended up with a B+ and a A. My problem is that OTCAS is going to factor in the C'S into my gpa, which will bring my overall gpa at a 3.41
I have started shadowing occupational therapists and I plan on having atleast 100 hours by the end of August and I am taking the GRE at the end of August.

Do you think I still have a chance of being admitted??

Thank You

Yes I think you should at least try.. You probably won't get into SOME schools, but there's plenty of schools out there and some give more care to whether you know what OT is and that you want to do it. If you do well on your GRE then keep in mind the schools will also be looking at your GRE and your better grades in anatomy, not just your D, which I think goes along way in showing you knew the D wasn't acceptable and you turned it around. Remember the only reason they want you to do good in those pre-reqs is because you will be taking them over again.

Overcoming obstacles is something that is looked at very highly in the application process. I would suggest applying to some non-otcas programs. In my opinion it can be easier to show these schools the real person behind the application. Also-I would suggest taking a few classes online or a cc if at all possible to improve your gpa.

I know I have read posts where people said they were admitted to schools, having retaken courses due to low grades. I would not give up on the idea of Occupational Therapy school because of a few low grades. I agree with the idea that you should apply to some non-OTCAS schools, but I don't think you have to completely avoid OTCAS school.

Do very well on the GRE, get hundreds of observation hours in occupational therapy, and get a job in or related to the OT field. Also, explain why you received a D in the essay if allowed, or have the Anatomy professor state that this does not reflect your ability (if he/she writes a LOR for you).
