Hi all,

This is my first time posting here, I was hoping to get some advice/comments.

I just graduated last week after 5 years, took some time off to study for mcat. I'm working on my application for DO schools and SGU as well, so I have a gap year. I just have to pick the schools for the application to be complete.

My stats:
GPA: 3.33
sGPA: 3.07
MCAT: First time 18, Second time 19.
I shadowed a physician, volunteered at a hospital, a lot of service at church and community, and I just got a Scribe job about 2 months ago.

I know my mcat score is really low, but I was hoping if you can tell me what schools I have a decent chance in?

I was going to apply to MD as well, but I figured I would just apply to DO and SGU for now, and if I don't get accepted, I can do a masters and re-apply next year.

I appreciate any comments.

Thank you

First of all post in the wamc thread.

Second retake the mcat and try to hit 29+ this time to make up for your low gpa . At this point your best bet would be to go into podiatry. But you still should try for a 24ish for podiatry.

Even for DO a 19 MCAT is going to tank your app. With your GPA you'd need a >=30 MCAT to be competitive.

I would suggest saving your money and not applying this year. I think you need to seriously consider your career choices at this point and determine if medicine is the right path. If you still believe it is truly what you want to do, then you have some serious work to do with MCAT preparation and studying and finding out why you did so poorly. Some GPA repair and covering the basic sciences again through a masters program may be a place to start, but only after some serious soul searching and determining if this is what you truly want to do.

I'm normally an optimist, but those scores aren't going to get you anywhere and could lead to further trouble down the road (I.e. Passing boards).

No chances at DO or even SGU... You might have a shot at ROSS/AUC foundation programs before they can let you move 0n to their MD program. You chances at pod school is 50/50 with that 19 MCAT.

Your MCAT scores are lethal for MD and DO schools.

Carib diploma mills will take you as long as you're breathing and can write a up-front tuition check.

Don't go to the diploma mills though op!!! They are a scam.

The internet doesn't allow for my dripping contempt for the Carib schools to travel via electrons, alas.

Not great OP. Cgpa is fine but sgpa and MCAT are red flags.

Remember, the admission requirements are there also to protect you from the Board Exams. You need to prove you can get smacked with a lifetime of info in 2 years and comprehend enough for a board exam as well as or better than your peers. If not, you don't get the job you want. So....its not the end of the world. Im a DO student with a 23 MCAT and a 3.2 GPA. Sounds like you didn't take an MCAT class. Neither did I. That's why my MCAT was low. You need to take the class and make it your B. Then apply, get in --> problem solved.

Take a class if you need to. At the very least, set aside like 3 months and go HAM. Do some content review, but I would say practice tests on top of practice tests on top of practice tests.

what are my chances? gpa 3.9 mcat 25 I am interested in do school where should I apply? can I get in?

mcat 25 after 2 time retaking in 3 weeks but can I get in with 25 and 3.9 which schools should I apply to? interested in do school.

Consider a post-bacc program, retaking courses, or an SMP, but I think your MCAT is too low to get you into a good SMP program. I have very similar stats to yours from undergrad. Completed the SMP program at Tufts (3.63) and ended up getting in this cycle. I did have a 27 MCAT when I was accepted to Tufts, and got in this cycle with a 34. I don't know if your MCAT is enough to get you into the Big Three Caribbean schools. I would also apply to AUC. If you have to go to the Caribbean, and your heart is set on becoming a doctor, AUC is a great place to go. I will warn you that the course load at AUC is intense and isn't a cakewalk like a lot of people will tell you. But, I can guarantee you that anyone that finishes a degree at AUC has earned their right to have that MD behind their name. I'd also highly recommend a MCAT prep course.
