Hi , i have been lurking in the shadows for quite some time now and i have to say this site is really helpful and quite addicting actually . Anyways lets get to the point. I'm currently a junior in a going into my spring semester i currently have a cGPA 3.22 sGPA of 3.12. My transcript is plagued with mostly B's a about 9 A's and 1 c. The c is in a prereq course. Now i have read quite a little bit about how DO schools have grade replacement policies. Does this work if you retake the class in your current school or can it be retaken at any other college. My total credits so far is about 84 that is including this spring semester
- I know its pretty obvious in no shape to be a contender for med schools or DO schools for that matter. But i want some solid advise as to how i can boost my chances. Is a GAP year advisable? i dont plan to take the MCAT anytime soon as i want to focus on boosting my GPA. Also do you guys have any suggestions as to any upper-level electives i could take to impress the medical schools. I also have little to no community service going for me. Neither do i have any shadowing experience. Pretty much my EC is at the minimal. At this stage what do you guys advise i do ?

As of right now you are a weak, but still viable candidate for DO schools, mostly the newest programs.

You can retake anywhere. Only the most recent, better grade counts. So retake the C.

You're not viable for MD schools, correct.

If you can get the GPA up to 3.3+, you'll be much more competitive.

Anatomy, Physiology, Biochem, Bistats, Cell Bio, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Micro, Immuno, Pathology, Embryology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Epidemiology, Histology.

Lacking these will be lethal for any medical career. You need to display your altruism and humanism. So yes, a gap year is advisable. If you have no patient contact experience, how can you convince us that a career in Medicine is for you? That you "just know"? That won't cut it.
