I am applying to OT school soon in the Mid-Atlantic region, specifically Philadelphia area.

Undergrad University: Penn State
Major: Rehabilitation and Human Services
Overall GPA: 3.1
Pre-Req GPA:3.1
GRE: 149 verbal, 149 quantitative, 4.0 writing

Extra-Curric: Penn State Club Lacrosse

Volunteer
  • Director/Founder of Annual BPM Memorial 5k with 150+ participants. Raised over $19,000 in the first two years.
  • Appalachia Service Project 2010

Observation hours: 500+ hours at Abington Memorial Hospital in Acute Care and Inpatient Rehab Unit

You have a lot of hours, but you should really consider getting like 20 or more in a different setting. Most places require at least two different settings... I would say if they require 2 do at least 3 different settings (if that's possible for you).... but you should REALLY try to do another one though. One isn't enough at most schools (I'm assuming acute care/inpatient is one place... at least at the hospitals that I volunteered at it was...). Also, since your GPA is on the lower end, I would say definitely apply to a few schools that require interviews... I can't stress enough how vital (and for most people helpful) interviews are... Also scroll through this forum to see what schools people with lower GPAs applied too.... it could help. Good Luck!
 
try and get some outpatient observation as well

and also home visit is another area that OT does well given that ADL is what we handle
