Thanks Goro, my biggest concern with the top schools is my research is minimal in comparison to a lot of their applicants. I will be working in a hospital pathology lab during my gap year. I will also volunteer in the hospital when I am not working. I think I will cut the list down to around 20-24 schools, the schools with the coldest average temperature will be the first ones cut since I do not do well in extreme cold, Mayo will not make the list.

I fully understand. Several TX summers baked my cold tolerance right out of me!

I just met with my adviser and she had some interesting insights. She stated that with my MCAT score it puts me in a great category since there are not many females that have scores equal to or higher than my score along with a good GPA. Also the fact that schools are really trying to up their average MCAT scores while maintaining a balanced male/female ratio should get me a good opportunity for interviews. That if the interviews go well and turn into an acceptance I would have a very good chance at getting great financial aid since high stats look good as far as medical school rankings, and higher rankings turn into more money for the medical schools through research grants and donations. Do you think this theory is plausible or is she just trying to stroke my ego.

I think your chances are great regardless of your gender.

Bump, I wanted to get an opinion on my final school list after doing research on the schools. This leaves me with only 14 schools other than my state schools. I could be happy at U of Florida or Miami if I didn't get into any of these other schools. I know the list is top heavy but if I don't get into any of the these schools I feel pretty good that I can get accepted instate and save money. I only want to apply once and hopefully have no regrets. I have read that LizzyM wrote that ideally one should apply to about 15 schools if you are a strong applicant. Other than lack of significant research I feel like I have a pretty strong application.
