Hello, all! Take a look at this overview of my stats. Let me know what you think!

GPA: cGPA 3.27 (very strong upward trend - had a rough first semester in college, have since collected myself and have done well) BCPM GPA: ~3.1 (estimated)
MCAT: 506
Publications: Sole author publication in peer reviewed journal of global health
Shadowing: 150+ hours with an array of specialties and subspecialties
Extracurriculars: Unique and varied, very involved. President and ex-president of multiple organizations on campus. Founder of program for pre-health students that was ultimately adopted by the university.

Sponsored by undergraduate institution's pre-medical committee.
Planning on starting an MPH during my gap year to boost GPA - also, have always wanted to pursue MD/MPH

Your stats are way too low for MD and not even fantastic for DO. If you don't have the numbers, nothing else really matters.

If you really really really want to do MD, you're likely going to have to do an SMP (special master's program) and destroy it (3.8+) to show that you can handle hard science courses. You'll also have to retake your MCAT with a 511+ minimum (preferably higher). After that you'll be competitive.

While an MPH might be good for your career goals, realize that it's not going to help you get into medical school. MPH GPA is not at all equivalent to undergrad GPA, postbac GPA, or SMP GPA. Those are really the only GPA numbers that really matter.

Alternatively, you can retake classes you didn't do well in, get your GPA up to ~a 3.5 or so, and have a good shot at DO. But you're out of the running for MD as of right now.

Does it matter that my upper level course GPA (3000+ level) is a 3.7? If one were to look at my transcripts, there is a very clear turning point in my academic work. I am a bio major, so a significant number of those upper levels are science classes.

Not really. Upward trends make up for a somewhat poor GPA when everything else is good.

If you were
2.0
3.7
3.9
4.0
that may get you some slack, but the 506 MCAT gives them no reason to question your 3.1 GPA as accurate. A 515+ would make them look twice.

MD is extremely unlikely without serious changes and a retake.
