I am a non trad student 35 yrs old that decided to go back to school after many years working. I started out at a comm. college and have did pretty well. The local university has a medical school, and doesnt frown on the courses at the comm. college- the corses are even numbered the same. And from what I have been told, the courses are just as hard or even more so. Anyways, my question is , after i got out of high school I went to a univrsity and took some classes, however I was not serious and did very avg. ( some b's and c') - it was only about 20 hours or so , and was 14 yrs ago. For the past 2 years I have recd honors with liberal arts degree, obtaining these grades(chem 121 -A , chem 122 -B. Bio 121-A, bio 122-A, Calc I- B, Calc II-A, Colege algebra-A, Spanish I-A, Bio ethics-A, phil-A) , you got the idea, the overall gpa is around 3.8, and I have not calc my science gpa. Note: I am not including my grades from many yrs ago. Oh, I also passed a EMT basic, and am now certified. I also worked as a psych tech in a drug & alcohol hospital, and also worked in a mental institute. Anyways, I have been working very hard, and will be taking Org I and II at a 300 level at the University and Biochem 400 level before taking the mcat. This summer it will be cell bio and physics. so what do you think, will my past hurt me?

Nope. Those are great grades.

uhh...

well, u have a long way to go...so might as well finish up a lot of the pre-reqs before we SDNers can give you an idea of whether you will get in or not...

if it's worth anything, older pre-meds with lower college GPAs (w/upward trends) have been admitted in the past...a strong MCAT can't hurt...also, DO schools might be an option,,,

NO way you need to consider DO schools just yet. Ace your remaining pre-reqs and do well on the MCAt and your money for Allo. No worries, you look solid...

Don't worry at all. Just keep doing well in your classes now. I had a 2.5 gpa (due to chronic medical problems) as an undergrad BMEng. major in 1990. My post-bacc was a 4.0 and my MCAT was a 33S. No problem!
