I am 41, current gpa is 3.47. I just got a D in precalculus, which will no doubt lower my gpa even more. I received an A in organic chemistry, biology, and B in gen chem. Math is obviously my weak point. Will med schools still look at me, even though math gpa is added into science gpa?

Btw, I want to practice rural family medicine in South Dakota. How often does a primary care physician use precalculus?

I got a D in calculus, and I'm at an MD school on the east coast.

one red flag won't keep you out of med school, but the fewer questions in adcom's minds about your application the better. shoot for an upward trend and no more worrisome grades and one D won't be a big deal.

just to add a note that some schools require one year of math as a prerequisite, so either fulfill that with other coursework or don't apply to those schools if you aren't planning on completing a full year.

This is the wrong way of looking at this. It's not whether you use pre-calc, but showing how you handle difficult coursework. Med school will be a LOT harder than what you're taking now.

Being a South Dakotan, you still have great chances at U SD.
