Hey guys,
I currently have a 3.97 GPA, a year of research experience but no publications yet, ~100 hours of volunteering in two different departments, only about 8 hours of shadowing in the OR, and I'm involved in a fraternity in which I have held several chair positions. I am a junior and plan on taking the MCAT late next month. I have been studying and took a practice and got a 506. I still have time, and I know what I can improve on so I expect the real thing to be at least that.

I have 3 recommendation letters ready to go, and I plan on getting 1 or 2 more. The only thing is that they are all science professors and 1 is my boss at the hospital. Do I need a non-science professor also? And what do you think my chances are currently or what I can improve on?

Thanks!!

You need more shadowing, especially in primary care, get it up near 40 -50 hours. Is that 100 hours of volunteering clinical or non-clinical? You should have at least 100 of each as an absolute bare minimum....somewhere around 200 each over a longer period of time would be most beneficial.

Yes, you should get atleast one n0n-science professor. Your GPA is great, so make sure you get a solid MCAT score as high as you can!
