What are my chances? I am a Florida resident, so I'll be applying to a few MD schools in state, the DO schools in state, and will apply pretty broadly for this upcoming cycle.
Basics
- White male
- 3.7 cGPA, 3.79 s GPA - Majored in Biomedical Sciences, Minored in Mathematics
- 505 MCAT
-162Q, 158V, 4.5 GRE
Volunteer Experience
-I volunteered for a cancer center for about three years and racked up a little more than 1000 hrs in the PACU with pretty direct patient contact.
-Tutored upper level science classes for the 4 years that I was at my school (Calc, Diff Eq, Physics, Orgo)
-Have close to 500 hours of shadowing all sorts of doctors - neurology, cardiology, pulmonologist, family medicine (DO), internal medicine, pediatrics(DO), endocrinology, and urology. clocked in dozens about a hundred hours with the neurologist, and a pretty equal amount with the rest.
Work Experience
-Worked full time throughout undergrad at Home Depot (started before attending University)
-Also worked as an RA during my last 2 years of undergrad
-Working as a discharge coordinator at a clinic now that provided primary care for the homeless and low-income population in the area, not necessarily on the clinical side, but I work very close with the doctors and patients to bridge financial/insurance struggles.
Research Experience
-Worked for an Alzheimer's research lab for about a year and a half doing 25-35 hours a week, unfortunately didn't make it out on a publication though.
LOR
-Have got 6 LOR, two of which I'm pretty positive are solid, the other four are good but I'm not sure if they're exceptional.
-Will be asking for another LOR from a DO I shadowed, and from the CMO of my clinic, both of which I'm certain will be strong.
I'm leaning more towards doing primary care, and love the idea of OMT, so I think I'm gearing myself moreso towards DO schools.
I put in everything that I could think of off of the top of my head, so I hope that gives enough for a decent "what are my chances" eval!
