Good afternoon SDN people,

posting this so i can see where is stand and what i need to do for MD school, basically i messed up during freshman year got two F's one in bio and one in chem both retaken got A in chem and C in orgo 1, i have overall gpa of 2.8 with science gpa of 2ish gonna start UC this fall as a junior i have total of 52 SCIENCE (-3 if med school doesn't count pre-algebra) credits in science i heard i can take around 50 more at UC school. Did do some calculation i think ill be around 3.0 science gpa if i ace all of those Upper division classes so upward trend, also i am thinking post bacc but i don't know how post bacc works or if i can retake the old classes i've got C's in looking forward to positive criticism wana know if i ace the last two years of undergrad along with post would i have a chance at MD school. PS i don't want to make excuses for my first two years but i think what i know now if i had known before i would be in better place basically i'm frist generation college student and coming from 3rd world country i didn't know any better i took way too many science courses all together at CC but, damages done how can i show med school i have got what it takes. Also what are my chances with PA school. Thank you all and for this platform for some guidance.

I say keep working hard and try to bring the GPA up as much as possible. If you're from a third world country, that shows a lot for distance traveled I would think. You could be competitive for DO and possibly have a chance at MD if you start making A's from this point on. PA school is certainly a good option too. I would say you should do your best as you finish your degree and revisit this decision when you have your final numbers

Thank you so much and yes i am getting/working and hoping to have A's every semester here on now.

PA school isn’t easy to get into either. They expect high GPAs as well because it has gotten so competitive plus a ton of clinical hours.

You’re on the right path and you need to continue to get A’s in everything.

thank you Doc 🙂 i am planning to get all A's in my next 90 credits of junior, senior and post bacc year will probably study for MCAT afterwards and also do shadowing along with clinic hours. will apply to both DO/MD and if not ill take an SMP only thing i'm thinking is that if i will have 90 credits from here on i heard Post bacc gives you 36 credits ill have to find the rest 54 during junior and senior year so far ucr shows i can take 40 units of credits not sure if i can request/ find more science classes there. but will see if you have any insight on that please lmk

You can literally do a post bacc from wherever you want. Do NOT overload your schedule.
is it true that if i am a pre med who has bachelors in biology i would not be able to find post bacc that offers science classes for grade enhancement? they say i will run out of science courses which sounds dumb if that was the case why would be post bacc named grade enhancement post bacc? did u happen to know?

I have never heard this before. Unless this is a UC thing.

well do typically post bacc have more science classes other than the ones you have already finished during your pre reqs and upper division at university? and i believe not because another person said theres no such thing and they took post bac at UCR. so i was curious ? its the people over at college confidential thread this one person in particular although i don't know their credentials lol
