i just recently found out about SDN from a friend and so far reading the messages have been helpful.
i took the DAT today and i am not sure if my score is strong enough to be accepted to dental school. my GPA is 3.87 and my test scores are:

biology - 22
gen chem - 19
org chem - 18
PAT - 17
reading comp - 17
math - 13
academic ave - 18

i don't think i have seen a score of 13 on anyone else's test yet. i may have just set the all time low score record (Ha Ha).
do i still have a chance of getting accepted into a dental school even with the incredible 13? i was hoping that because my sciences are decent that i would have a shot.
thanks

Your scores are pretty good. But that 13 is really bad...a lot of schools require atelast a 14 in each section. Will you get in somewhere...probably. Will you get into Harvard and Columbia? Probably not. But who cares 🙂. You have solid scores, but honestly it wouldnt hurt to retake and bring up your math and maybe reading. Good luck, your GPA kicks butt!

Some schools do have a cut off at either 15 or 14, regardless of the section. I received an amazing score of 15 on the QR section and it was never brought up in any interviews, although I think it played significant factor in my Iowa rejection. If in doubt call some of the schools on your list and ask their opinion as they will know if there are any restrictions or minimums associated with DAT scores. Best of luck! 👍

I personally re-took the DAT becuase I had a low Math score, so I would probably advise you the same. If you just spend the time to do LOTS of practice problems you will bring that score way up. You probably totally underestimated the math like me. I brought mine up to a 20, and I know you could do the same, just finishing I felt it was well worth it. Just my two cents though!! 🙂

beard, I think whether or not you retake depends on how many choices you would like to have for which dental school to go to. As most people have already said, your math score is low, but great job on bio! I think if you are shooting for a little more competitive schools or would like to have many choices as to which school you would like to attend, I suggest you retake it and try to improve the math score. Don't be discouraged!!

If you aren't planning on applying until the 2006 cycle I would certainly retake. All of your scores are great except for your math and remember that the math makes up 1/3 of your academic average. If you could even get your math up to a 19 or 20 your AA would be up there as well and that would look great. Even if you don't retake take it, an 18AA is pretty much on par with most schools and you have a great GPA. Good luck

You have a very strong GPA and most of your sections on your DAT are very impressive. I hate to be blunt, but there is no way that any dental school is going to accept you with any section lower than a 14. Some schools will not even look at you if you have any scores lower than a 15. Considering how competative this year's cycle is, you will have to retake the DAT if you want to get in anywhere. However, the DAT is not the only thing that dental schools look at. Your extracurriculars, LORs, GPA(which yours rocks!), and your interview are all going to be very important factors as well. Retake the DAT, and up your math score, and you will most likely get in somewhere. Good luck!
