Hey folks

I just found out that I am ranked as competent for my dean's letter. Which is the lowest category one can fall into. Now I am really worried cause my step 1 score of 204 doesn't exactly work in my favor. Anyone know previous applicants who matched in anesthesia with a similar background. I have some research from first year in medicine (not anesthesiology related) that may work in my favor. It seems like almost everyone on this site are superstars with perfect grades and step 1 scores. Few other poor souls, including me, can benefit from any advice at this point as to what programs to look into. This would help me who out tremendously. I am looking into east coast programs.

thank you

Hi
This topic has been covered a few times b4. In fact a similar post was recently addressed by the knowledgeable UTsouthwestern on this forum. If you look up his name, and search his past posts, you will be uncovering some good information. A few things to consider b4 you look.
1. Do a gas rotat. and ACE it allowing for the culmination of a strong LOR.
2. 1 is even better if done at a program with a residency program in gas.
3. Stomp the hell out of step2
4. US student= better chances than IMG's.

I am a 4th yr applying right now, so I know the utter madness that can be experienced by ruminating over whether you are competitive enough.

Hope this helps.

If you want it bad enough, and pick the right programs to apply to, and finish strong, you can do it. Send UT a message asking him where he thinks you should apply with your stats. You dont need to go to Mass General to be a competent, successful anesthesiologist.

Keep your head up, finish strong, and apply to the right programs.

Good luck. 👍
