I guess you all have heard the term "Don't give up, never give up! and you will succeed."

Will after having that thought in mind, what do you think are my chances of getting in a Medical school?

I have a Bachelor in Biology.
3.15 gpa. Around the same for Science pre-req. I have to say I did not put in my 100 percent.
no MCAT yet.
no research experience.
~100 hour ER volunteer exp

I am one year out of college working in a Lab now.
I guess I just became serious of wanting to become a doctor.

Will consider any sound advice, thanks!

I think in your position, you should consider DO rather than just MD schools, or do a postbacc program or masters and bring up the GPA, do research, and improve on the ECs. It takes time to shape up a strong application.

Really work on bolstering those ECs. Absolutely kill the MCAT. I mean, dedicate your life for a couple of months to MCAT and totally kill it (33-35+). MD is not completely out of the question, but DO is much more practical.

With your low cGPA, a good MCAT score could get you into a DO school. Ideally, you'd get in some physician shadowing and more clinical experience before you apply (would need a physician Letter of Recommendation, half prefer a DO letter). If your most recent science coursework is not an A- average, you'd need to take more undergrad coursework to prove to adcomms you could handle the science-heavy load of med school. Your current science GPA (Biology, Chem, Physics) isn't too reassuring.

If you only wish to consider MD schools, your path to GPA redemption is longer and more expensive. Taking more undergrad classes on your own won't raise your GPA substantially at this point. I think you'll need to do an SMP (Special Masters Program) after getting a good MCAT score to qualify for admission. A research experience and the other added ECs, along with some leadership activity would help you too. See SDN's Postbaccalaureate Forum for more info.

Those with your cGPA and an MCAT in the 33-35 range have a 38% chance of an acceptance somewhere, which includes those with modifying factors to their application, none of which you mention. Even with a score of 40-45, your chance of an admission is only 54%. Those with a poor science GPA are not among them.

realistically, MD is out of the question. You can try to apply to some of the lower tier schools but DO is more realistic.

A 3.15 is difficult for most DO schools too. The average GPA for the vast majority of DO schools is still around a 3.5/3.6 range.

Come back with an MCAT score and then we can be of more help.

MD is going to be really hard but I have heard of 3.1-3.2 GPAs getting in a MD school in the South with a 33+ MCAT. In fact, I know a person that did this with average clinical experience.

He just explained that he did not think he was going MD so he did not try as hard and back up his smarts with a great MCAT score.

A Master's degree could help too.

Thanks for the replies.

One questions though, What are some master programs to look into?
