Hi i am a junior at UAB i want to go to med school, but i want to know my chances and what can help my resume?

i just want to know what i need to do to make myself a good candidate because this is my dream and i want to reach it. Also i am not a good writer and i wanted to know what the best thing to do about my personal statement?

your GPA is very good just make sure u do well on the mcats and u'll be set

GPA is decent, slightly below average, but not too low (trust me, I think a 3.6 being below average is also ridiculous).

Get a 30+ on the MCAT, obviously as high as you can. Standardized tests are imperfect ways to measure applicants, but it is the only means to uniforming compare all applicants.

Those sound like a solid set of EC's just keep building them up. You don't need 100 things, just show commitment to a few solid interests

Looks good 🙂

I can't help you with the PS, mine is still a TWIP (terrible work in progress).

Agreed on all counts! Your GPA is average (is your science GPA higher than your cumulative? That would be a help) and you've got the trifecta of ECs (research, volunteering and clinical experience/shadowing). Get a 30+ on the MCAT and you should be plenty competitive.

Good luck!

What do you all feel about the personal statment because i am really worried about it because i am not a very good writer and i no its an important part it really stresses me out

Close...

I'd be more constructive, but everyone else has it under control. Average matriculant's GPA+average matriculant's MCAT score+average matriculant's EC's=average matriculant.

It's important to have a well crafted Personal Statement. I suggest you search the internet for some examples and then use those ideas to create something original. Have an old English teacher proofread it and give a critique. Also get input from premed friends who got in the previous cycle, parents, and an advisor. Next is the harder part. Your Secondary essays must match the Primary in quality. If they don't adcomms will assume you didn't write the Primary yourself. So be sure your panel of "experts" are freely available next summer, too. If you are really stuck for input, SDN has a list of those willing to help with Primary Statements only. See sticky in PreMed Allo.
