My interest is Vascular/Neuro Critical Care and Epilepsy. Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you for your help. Good Luck to all who are applying now! And I hope to see the rest of you on the road next year!

I would have to disagree, it is more like 93.865% . I think you are forgetting that the latest guidelines deduct an additional .004% per non-field related publications.

To the OP. Please read the forums a little more. You know that you are going to match somewhere. If you are asking how competitive you are for top programs, lets just say you are about average but below stellar. Statistics and chance play a big role in the actual program you end up at. Nobody can answer that here for you.

Best of luck . Get to know your PD, get great letters, and hopefully be good enough that someone will be inclined to make a phone call on your behalf to your top choice program.

You will have no problems, but remember the rule to include programs from all three categories (dream programs, realistic programs and fall-back programs). The previous poster is correct, you are a good candidate but could go wrong if you only apply to "top 5" programs

You'll match somewhere for sure, but based on your step 1 score the very top programs might be out of reach. Neurology is getting a lot more competitive-from what I've seen on the interview trail, many of the med schools that usually have 2-4 graduates applying to neuro now have 10+.

I wrote the following in 2005, back when I was the forum admin. It is in the FAQ, and still true...

I'm not sure whether I will be able to match into neurology, what do you think? My stats are....

Please don't ask this question. Anyone has a chance of getting into neurology. It's not a very competitive specialty. That being said, the top programs in any specialty are hard to get into. In short:

Neurology = Fairly Easy
Top 5 = Quite Hard

The only way you will know whether you can get into a specific program (or neurology in general) is to apply and test your luck.

Good job. Only a matter of time now until someone posts a thread asking what the top 5 programs are. :meanie:
