Hey Everyone,

I recently graduated with a Chem degree. My GPA is 2.845 and prereq GPA is 3.05. I will be taking the MCAT in September 2015. I have tons of EC's and will be getting excellent recommendation letters. I have shadowed many doctors and volunteered everywhere, even out of country.

What are my chances in getting into med school in the US?? The Caribbean schools are my Plan B but I really dont want to waste anytime applying and getting rejected only to find out I could have applied to the Caribbean and had a better chance. What are my options?

pretty much zero with that GPA unless you choose to take a few years to do retakes/pursue upper level courses. Carribeans is never an option no matter what.

If I retake some Pre-reqs i can get it up to 3.45. Will that be better?

Quickest option seems to be retake courses that brought your GPA down (C or less) and apply DO.

Carribean shouldn't be a plan at all. Don't be that desperate. You can get in somewhere with patience and the right attitude.

With a 3.45, you have a good shot at DO schools, depending on your MCAT score.

MD seems unlikely with that GPA, and there is no grade replacement, only averaging.

The universal opinion here is that Caribbean should not be an option, and there are good reasons for this (use the search function if you'd like to see for yourself).

Caribbean + Genius = ? ..... Good Times. OP should avoid the Carib scammers at all point. The government should stop offering student loans for Carib schools.

As of right now? ZERO at either MD or DO schools.

Forget about taking the mCAT. You need to start some serious GOA repair. Start by retaking every F/D/C science coursework and then ace them.

The decide whether your OK with being a DO, or are boning for the MD. If the latter, then a post-bac program (which can be DIY) or a SMP are required, along with acing the MCAT.

You need to convince Adcoms that you'll survive med school.

3.45 and good MCAT (32+) you will have a good shot at DOs.

MD is really a reach since they don't accept grade replacement.

If you have taken enough credits to graduate I think you maybe underestimating the amount of credits it will take to raise your GPA up to a 3.45. That is unless you are thinking about completely replacing any prior D/Fs with As when calculating for GPA
