What are my options?

Hey Everyone,

I recently graduated with a Chem degree. My GPA is 2.845 and prereq GPA is 3.05. I will be taking the MCAT in September 2015. I have tons of EC's and will be getting excellent recommendation letters. I have shadowed many doctors and volunteered everywhere, even out of country. If I retake some pre-reqs i can get my sGPA up to 3.45

What are my chances in getting into med school in the US?? The Caribbean schools are my Plan B but I really dont want to waste anytime applying and getting rejected only to find out I could have applied to the Caribbean and had a better chance. What are my options?

Your chances aren't good with that GPA. With retakes, you'll have a much better chance.

I can't really say unless you've taken the MCAT.

I think applying DO would also be a good option for you with the retakes. You really just need to get your GPA above a 3. The problem though is that the retake policy for DO schools might be changing.... I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Its really hard to tell someone how good their chances are if they dont give you an MCAT score. No matter what anyone says, even DO schools place a giant emphasis on gpa and MCAT

a 30 MCAT was about a 75 percent on the old mcat. I believe that means you need a 508 on the new one to be about the same. A 30 MCAT is overkill for DO schools, however, it would more than compensate
for your low gpa. Anything 27+ would be great though.

A 500 is about equivalent to a 25, so I guess shoot for a little higher than that to be around 27-28

I have to retake coouple classes this spring so i will be applying in 2016 for the 2017 class.
