I have a low cumulative and science GPA and I have only taken some of the pre reqs for med school. I'm finishing up my psych degree at University of Florida by spring next semester. Not sure what their policies are for letting me stay another year to do those pre reqs since all the advisors I've talked to are pushing for me to graduate my 4th year. I've looked into post bac programs but with my GPA, I won't be accepted. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Just because your advisers are pushing you to graduate, it doesnt mean you have to graduate if you dont want to. Do you always do what other people say? Just stay for the 5th year if you can and take those pre-req.

If your gpa is so low you won't get into a post-bac, the likelihood that you will improve enough with a 5th yr of college is slim. Furthermore, your school is judged by the outside world based on the % of students who graduate in 4 years and your advisors are motivated to get you out of there! Can you blame them?

When you say, "too low" do you mean < 3.2?

Frankly, I'd suggest getting a job after college graduation and doing the rest of the pre-reqs at a community college. If you can get nothing less than A- in those classes, take the next step and prep in a serious way for the MCAT. If you score in the range that places your chances of admission at < 65% and feel you still need to improve your overall gpa, retake the classes in which you did poorly and apply to the osteopathic schools.
