What are scrubs?
Started by xnfs93hy
Imagine wearing pajamas to work...
They're the clothes worn under full surgical gowns/masks/gloves etc. They're also worn in the ER and on OB/GYN, basically anywhere you'd expect to get dirty and want easily cleaned, easily exchanged clothes.
Med students frequently wear them in anatomy lab.

almost everyone wears them... I don't because I'm a nutrition aide but in spring when I'm working as a nursing assistant I will. You know when you go to the dentist's and they have those fruity shirts with weird patterns and such? Srcubs. Those matching shirts and pants that nurses wear. Scrubs. If you go to a hospital, usually certain departments have certain scrubs you have to wear. Watch scrubs! haha I love that tv show although a lot of it is like.... yeah.. but it's still great.
This may be the dumbest question asked on SDN but I still do not know what 'scrubs' are. Who wears them? Do you buy them? They are clothing right?
Basically the folks in the hospital who wear scrubs are anyone doing anything surgical or obstetric related, all nursing staff, and anyone who is doing overnight call (since they are basically pajamas and nice to crash in if you get some down time). In med school, you probably will wear some for anatomy lab too, since you wouldn't want to get formalin on your street clothes (the smell lingers for months). At most hospitals you don't need to buy your own scrubs, they are provided by, and cleaned by the hospital.

Scrubs are very comfortable because they're light. I wore scrubs all the time when doing my summer volunteering.
Nice. I am not pre-med I am still in HS but they made me wear a uniform when I worked at the medical center, free lunch too, pretty sweet deal 👍
Not to be mean, but please tell me this is a joke..............
Scrubs are what doctors/nurses/ techs and other health care professionals wear. I really don't know where to buy them. Beucase I live in a college town and we have the medical center you can find scrubs anywhere. Just be aware, I pay about $55-60 for my scrubs!

That's too expensive.
I agree, that is too expensive. They are glorified PJs that you can toss in the wash, not something to spend a bunch of money on. We have four hospitals, the med school, the nursing school, and the vet school in a town of less than 100K, so we've got scrubs even in Wal-Mart and we also have a Life Uniform store in the mall. I got a nice pair of brown Dickies scrub pants there for $10, regular price $27 or so. They will work awesome for rectal palpations. 😎 And they have a buy 2, get 1 free sale, so I got 4 pairs of pants for $40.
