Hello,

I am a post-bacc student who is doing the basic pre-med reqs. I was an English major in college, so I don't know too much about which upper level science are the most helpful for the MCAT and in general to boost your sci GPA.

If you didn't do too well in intro bio and orgo, what are some good upper level science to take?

I hear cell bio, biochem, and physiology are good.

Any other suggestions? If I get a C in intro bio I what upper level classes could I take to make up for it if I get A's in them?

Thanks,

Tofurkey

Um... I would assume classes which you will see again in medical school. Why people ask such dumb questions is beyond me:/

given your vast experience with sdn maybe you need to keep your obnoxious comments to yourself 🙄

to the OP... biochem, anatomy, cell/molec bio are usually considered good. some schools go as far as to strongly recommend that applicants take biochem

Hey cakeface............bite it.

I would highly recommend biochemistry, as well as immunology, anatomy, genetics, and cell biology.

nowadays, it seems like cell/molecular bio is a must, which i think is interesting anyway.

for the mcat, physiology may help because it ties in all the sciences.

I think biochemistry would have been very helpful on the MCAT. The concepts that were only briefly described in biology or chemistry are explained in great detail and there is also a good deal of ochem review.

As others mentioned, I think biochemistry is very useful; some schools highly recommend taking it, although they don't require it. Anatomy as well, as I understand you get tooled with anatomy in MS1, and it's much easier if you have a background going into it. Beyond that, I'd say physiology, genetics, cell biology, microbiology (medical micro if it's available) and immunology would help quite a bit.

Classes that you can get As in. 😉

Good luck!

Hi,

I'm looking at my post-bacc school's course catalog and for spring they only offer cell bio and genetics. I would have thought biochem would be in there but I don't see it. Is it called something else more formally?

Would it be extremely difficult to take one of these upper level sciences with phy 2 and bio 2? As an English major I'm still feeling out the workload in the sciences.

Thanks,

Tofurkey
