Has anyone seen anyone get back into residency again, after having left a prior residency yet in good standing, whether in the same specialty or a different one altogether? What are the chances? lets say scores are minimally passing and they have publications. I noticed I get no interviews anymore. Do they blacklist a person in past residency? I noticed before having residency I would actually get interviews. I would have thought that the extra experience would be a plus. How can a person with past residency experience get into a program?

Thanks in advance.

It is true that physicians have a lower match rate than do students.

The reasons for that are myriad and there is no way anyone here can tell you with any certainty why you are getting fewer interviews this year. The reasons may be that already graduated physicians are seen as "damaged goods", programs may be afraid of funding issues, they may have been out of clinical training for too long, there may be some red-flags in their application.

In your case, programs may be concerned that since you didn't finish your PGY-1 year, that either your health concerns are going to be a problem or that you may flake out and leave their program. Your current letters may not be supportive of your application. You may also look like you don't know what you want since you are changing specialties. There could be a million reasons. Also are you applying for PGY-1 positions as we suggested or trying for PGY-2s (for which you aren't eligible)?

There is no formal, centralized blacklist that program directors share with each other.

I am applying to PGY1 this time. I'm hoping things will change later on in the upcoming months.

I agree with Winged Scapula.
I also think that the further you are out of training, the harder it will be to get interviews. As WS mentions, many programs are leery of people who have already left one program...who is to say the person won't bail out a 2nd time? You'll have to assuage that fear, should you get more interviews. Convince them that this time you'll stick with it.

I think there are two people on this forum, who have had similar situations to yours who have managed to get into second residencies. I know one is Isres. The second is is Doowai (sp?).
