Is there an updated list of the top 10 SMP programs out there? It's my understanding that the programs' linkages and performance change every few years. What would be the top programs most people will want to apply to in 2014 and beyond?

Ranking SMP's is kind of asinine, since so much of an individual program's effectiveness depends on the person's credentials and school list. You have to do your own investigation, talking to people who have completed SMP X and matriculated to medical school... some people prefer to talk to over private message and the ones that do usually have more reliable/candid things to say. What would helpful is if there was a thread of SDN users who will volunteer to answer questions about their SMP's over private message. The most that people who aren't current students or graduates of a particular SMP can for you is analyze trends from data the schools publish and make judgments based on that. One thing that is impossible to draw from that data is the effect of new changes on the way the program functions, which is something you'll only be able to get from a current student. You can e-mail program directors as well, though their invariably have a positive spin on everything.

If I'm misinterpreting you and don't care about the actual ranks, the amount of people applying and even in a program isn't as important as the percentage of those people who get into medical school and when...

Best of luck!

Thanks for your input, Notajock2day. I tried to contact some programs, and as you said they always have a positive spin on everything. I found that not very helpful. I don't really care about the ranking. I just wanted to know what are the tried and tested programs that most people will consider. There are many programs out there, and I'm sure not all of them worth the application time and money.

On the interview trail, I've met a few interviewees who did the Georgetown SMP. Anecdotal, but it seems like it's well-respected, at least on the east coast.

There are a variety of SMPs that fit different individuals. It's up to you to do your research and see where you stand, and what program will give you what you need. A good place to start is the sticky at the top of the forum. When you're finally at the stage of weighing which program to attend, read everything that was ever posted in this forum by past students. Posting a thread like this is meaningless and a waste of your time, as well as ours.

Thank you guys for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate the advices.
