for those who've taken step i, what are the key things i should be taking away after i do a set of 50q's? i.e. what things to pay attention for, and what are just untestable stuff on real thing? not sure if i should be annotating everything in fa.
it really depends on your learning style. Many people "learn" by annotating. Some people don't
When I first read your message, I thought "well, pay attention to the physio, path, pathophys, anatomy, embryology, biochem, behavioral science, mol bio, cell bio, histology." Focus on the ability to recognize diseases based on their presentation or lab abnormalities, their pathophysiology, and their treatment (with mechanism of action and potential important side effects).
Many step 1 questions start with something like:
Patient is a <blah blah blah> who presents with <blah blah blah>. The lab results show <blah blah blah>.
Then the question is usually one of the following:
1. what disease does he have?
2. what will be his <lab level>?
2. what drug should he get?
3. what is the mechanism of action of the drug he'll most likely get?
4. what is the AE of the drug he'll most likely get (or is taking)?
5. which of the following drugs is responsible for his <symptom>?
A good chunk of the covered disciplines are covered this way.
Other questions are just straight 1-step questions.
Other questions make you say "WTF?"
Since Qbank questions are similarly formatted, "take away" the thinking process associated with such questions. And, of course, take away the information you didn't know that would have made the thinking process a lot easier.
good luck.
