Could you guys give me general information of what prerequisites courses should be taken before applying for dental schools?????

Well, I cant go to DS right now because of financial situations, I would graduate first, work for a few years and apply for DS at a later time. Can I ask if i get my 4 years degree and the prerequ courses done, then just take the DAT and apply, is that a better way?

Financial is a good reason not to mention that you have not been accepted. It is not only a "better way" but the only way.

Do some research if you truely are interested. I'm sorry if I am wrong, but you don't seem to show much excitement or knowledge over dentistry. A simple google search and 5 min. of time will answer many of your questions.

Also remember that Dental school in itself is a major "financial situation". You would be looking at $200,000+ in dept for your schooling.

You are corrected. I am looking for some dentists in my area so I can do shadowing during the summers. I would check more during this time since I just finish my finals. Thank for answering. I was asking my predental advisor and all he can tell me is that: Do some shadow and we will see, cant give me any infor. I just want some information... thank.

In that case, if you know you are interestd in a particular school go to their dental homepage. You will find links for admissions that will explain there pre-reqs and other requirements. Most of the core classes are the same for all dental schools, but some require extras so you must check.

Generally the pre-reqs are:
English composition 1 and 2
Physics 1 and 2 (+ labs)
Bio 1 and 2 (+ labs)
Gen Chem 1 and 2 (+ labs)
Orgo 1 and 2 (+ labs)

Get in touch with your pre-med/pre-dent adviser from your school and ask them for a list of pre-dent classes. All advisers have such form, it will show you all the course names and numbers (and from which department theyr offered)

What do you mean you can't go for "financial reasons"? None of us have 200-400k for dental school... thats why we all resort to loans.

I was curious about this too. OP, you seem to assume that everyone on here just magically has enough money to pay for dental school. Most people use loans. I would suggest looking through the forums a little deeper and you will find the answers to most of your questions. Also, check dental school pages.

The financial reason here is not about school tuition or anything related. I am an asian and asian parents. That speak volume. So I kinda have the obligation to graduate fast and help generate income. This is the reason. I could just go for the loan and study hard. The thing is, I just cant win the argument. So I guess I would try going dental school at a later time, that something I see I may go in.

Also, I tried to talk to the prehealth adviser and all he says is, why you take CS as your major, why, why dont do it, go see some dentists and shadow first before talking to me, do your homework first. And for god sake, I was just asking for a list of prerequisite of courses.... I was speechless....

Sounds like your adviser is kind of rude, but partly correct. It is best for you to shadow dentists to learn of the professions, but as far as prereqs, check what DW said. You can work on those while you are finding more about the career. Worst case scenario is that you take a couple extra classes which will probably fit somewhere for your degree.

Some schools have a pamphlet for the different professional degrees. I would see if you can find one for pre-dental. They will give you general guidelines and pre-reqs.

In general though, take the courses that DW mentioned, and look through the websites of a few schools near you see what they require. Make sure you also get involved in some clubs. You can do clubs which interest you, it doesn't have to all be science/dentistry.

And again, I would look around the pre-dental forums. I'm sure you will find someone with a similar situation and see what advice they got. Good luck!

Thank, I appreciate you guys answers 🙂.
I would get involve with community services as well as anything else in the summer now. Going to do those rigorously to make up for 6 years of doing nothing.
And I took the first 2 general biology classes which I got A and B from a community college, and got transfered over... I dont need to retake them, right?
