Have your #1 being the worst school you could think of... and state whether or not if that were your only acceptance you would or would not be attending.

Whichever school you're going to.

I would never turn down an acceptance to a US med school...you have to be kidding with this thread. Only if I have multiple acceptances will I get picky, but I would never turn down a chance to become a doctor.

I might turn down Hollywood Upstairs Medical College. I hear their USMLE Step 1 pass rate is pretty low.

Yale. The whole no test thing is not conducive to my learning style - I would flunk out. Beyond that...I'd go anywhere.

No need to get snarky, OP. Your post was crap, and I think you know it. There are a ton of people on waitlists willing to go anywhere in order to follow their dream of becoming a doctor. This kind of post insults that kind of determination, and honestly, I think you knew that.

1. harvard
2. hopkins
and whatever else is on the top 5

throw in colorado and their absurd $70k out of state tuition

Dude, dudette whatever... take your own advice huh...

I am sorry but I think there are certain schools that people would actually not want to go to... If that were the case we all be applying to more schools as back ups... such as... and yes we know what they are.

besides it is a funny post not meant to take to heart.

Wow, that is high tuition... what are NY schools out of state tuiton like?

if there is a school you dont want to attend, then how about not applying there in the first place. p.o.s.o.b

No need to jump on the OP about this. I don't think he/she is trying to start something. It is just a hypothetical. No, we all know (or at least should know) not to apply to schools you would never attend, but the OP is just (in my opinion) trying to get an idea of the cons of some schools. Of course most people here would take any MD acceptance, but lets all just pretend for the sake of the OP's question that your app was sent to every school and you didn't even pay for it and you got tons of acceptances. which of those would you not attend? i am going to play along by my rules (but i didn't number because i can't decide).
Yale - the whole no test thing, i couldn't handle that
Loma Linda - i was going to apply but decided i couldn't adhere to what they were asking of me
SoCal schools - yes they are great schools, but i don't think i could live there, just not my type of place
Texas schools - that state is way too hot for me
Schools in New York City - that place is just too big for me

if i only had one MD acceptance, yes, i would go to any of these.

there we go, that didn't hurt that bad. if you don't want to play, then don't comment.

LOL, thank you that is all I was saying...

HMS
(Hogwarts Medical School)

I'd love to go to Hogwarts some day, but the truth is that I'm not getting anywhere near it as long as Voldemort is still on the loose. :scared:

Loma Linda.

I would never go to a med school whose stated goal was to teach medicine through "the healing and teaching ministry of Jesus Christ to make man whole"

Most people on this site are trying to get into ONE medical school, and many of them won't. If the average score on the MCAT didn't tip you off, most pre-meds never turn into medical students, much less doctors. Saying "what medical schools would you never attend" to a group of premeds is a little like saying "is a 3 bathroom house too small?" at a homeless shelter. It's the context, not the comment, that makes the OP an dingus.

i was in the position of just trying to get in one place last summer. trust me, i had a lot of fears that i wasn't going to get in. thankfully i did. i still would have found this thread sort of useful though. it is good to get others' opinions on certain schools no matter what they base them off of (location, weather, gender %'s). somebody looking for what schools to apply to could open this thread, read that yale doesn't have tests or that school X has 20 tests a month or that school Z has absurd rotations during third year and then, off of all this, decide not to apply there after all. this time last year, i wouldn't have had too much of an opinion because i would take anything, but i wouldn't have jumped all over the OP about it. go in to that homeless shelter, offer a man a choice of houses in different locations with different characteristics, different problems and different pluses, and he is still going to have an opinion. yes, he may say he will take any of them, but if he was actually being offered the house, if it would become his after he chose it, he is still going to pick the house he likes the best.

don't forget this forum is here to help, offer advice. it isn't just a place for us to complain about things.

Loma Linda. But if it were my only acceptance, duh I'd go.

Well, I'm not even applying to Loma Linda, because that's one school I'd NEVER go to, only acceptance or not. Just not my kind of environment. I would rather have to reapply than have to go to LL.

Otherwise, I wouldn't attend any NYC schools if I had other options, simply because of the location. First off, I plan don't like NY, second, the cost of living would be ridiculous, so it'd be much cheaper to go elsewhere - the cost of living alone would probably make tuition inch pretty close to UC OOS. And third, I have 3 cats, and I value them very much, and I'm realistic about my chances of finding a place in NYC that would take cats, let alone 3. I'm still going to apply there, because if it's my only acceptance, I'll suck it up and go, but I'd take any other school over it.

Yale. The whole no test thing is not conducive to my learning style - I would flunk out. Beyond that...I'd go anywhere.

How do they evaluate student performance and figure class rankings if they don't have tests?

You'd have to be a ***** to apply somewhere you wouldn't attend. With that said I wouldn't attend/apply to schools with a more than 90% of their class from instate if I'm an OOS applicant.

I wouldn't attend a private school incorporating religious beliefs outside my own if I got accepted elsewhere. I am applying to one or two just in case, but if I got into any other school, I'd decline the religious one. I would prefer not to attend a school where I might feel like an outsider because I'm not a follower of a particular religion.

I'd also take ALMOST any MD school over any DO school. Partly because DO schools require a gigantic deposit that is almost always nonrefundable, partly because matching is usually easier as an MD.

Then again, if I got into, say, MSU's DO school and then the worst MD school on my list (not that any accredited schools are bad, but relatively speaking, some are better or worse than others...), I'd probably go to MSU. It's in state for me, so it'd be cheaper than the lowest ranked and out of state MD school.

I don't think it is a good idea to have a thread dedicated to bashing or labeling certain schools as the "Worse". For many applicants an acceptance anywhere is all they could ask for.

Let's try to avoid any bashing or hating on schools for anything other than personal preference reasons. Like someone might not attend Harvard because they don't like Boston etc, but let's stay away from "I won't go to X school because they suck" type responses.

If you want to have a discussion of why you might not attend certain schools then feel free, but if it lingers into bashing or hating on schools then I will close this thread.

UCSF
UCLA
UCI
UCSD and
UCD

cus they're the cheapest

(note sarcasm)

Loma Linda because I personally think they're full of ****.

whats the point of even applying if you dont want to go there.... a med school is a med school.

31 MCAT, 3.34 GPA and 2 years as a secretary...I think you should go to whatever school accepts you.

can we bash the OP then? I think he's more than earned it.

Texas Tech or Texas A&M

I saw a picture of the buildings in my MSAR book and they made me feel sad. I don't think I would last there four years; especially in Lubbock/College Station.

Any NE school because it's too expensive. If I get like a 38 on the MCAT (which won't happen 😛) and get a super nice scholarship, I might consider a private school.

Other than that, with prospects of going in to primary care, I sure as heck don't want to go to a school that charges 40k/year.

I would definitely NOT attend any med school I didn't apply to. Honestly...

Guys, come on. If you say a school is bad, someone might get their feelings hurt. What if someone only gets into one school, and you say that you would never go there?? That would be horrible!!! They might cry. They might even withdraw and never become a doctor, all because of you.

So, let's all do what the moderator says and not mention any schools, because you can't have an opinion like that. You are not allowed to dislike ANY school for ANY reason, beacuse all schools are completely and totally equal. Even carribean schools and DO schools.

OP-You are a complete jerk for thinking that someone might have preference. Shame on you.

I think this thread is pointless. And I agree it is very inconsiderate to put down other schools, especially since other people might really like those schools. But let's not get carried away with what we assert here. All schools are NOT completely and totally equal since not everyone has the same needs/wants out of a school. Different schools really will be better/worse for different applicants. Take me for instance....I hate cold weather. I seriously dislike it. So for me, all those big Canadian schools like Harvard and Columbia would have been out of the question.

I'm not saying they're bad institutions. I just don't see myself being happy in Lubbock or College Station after coming from Austin.

may I be the first to congratulate christian on getting himself temporarily banned...

...good riddance.

I don't think a personal attack is necessary, thank you. 👎 And I wasn't a secretary.

Uh, none because I would never apply to a school I didn't want to attend. Or at least I wouldn't finish the secondary even if I added it to my primary =p

It has nothing to do with the schools being equal, but more to do with the fact that only a complete tool would apply to a bunch of schools they would refuse to attend. What kind of an idiot does that? If you're sure you wouldn't go even if it was your only acceptance, why would you waste the money on applications, and waste the school's time and your own? Making this question unbelievably stupid.

Princeton-Plainsboro is a real hospital right?

Colorado's insane OOS tuition kept me from applying there. Also, you can't say that it's as simple as don't apply there if you won't go there. My two others that I wouldn't go to unless they were my only choices were based on my feel for the school on interview day. My other two were Vandy and Yale, and both were just on feelings toward the schools during the interview.
