Hey guys so I have an interview tomorrow for a volunteer position at a hospital and I was just wondering what questions they would ask me...

I know to be ready for the obvious like why do you want to volunteer, what do you hope to gain, what can you give etc etc. Any other q's i should be prepared for?

Just doing some light preppin for this interview hehe 😀

What do you think is the job of a hospital volunteer?

What is your greatest strength/weakness?

Ethical scenarios involving medico-legal issues.

Tell me about yourself.

What do you know about this hospital?

Why do you want to volunteer here?

I see that you're going to school; are you studying something health-related?

How long do you expect to volunteer with us?

What department would you want to volunteer in?

Tell me about your ideal job in this organization.

Do you have any questions for me?

Is there anything else you would like me to know?

Tell me about a time when you had to provide good customer service.

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with someone you didn't like.

Tell me about a time when you had a conflict with a coworker.

Expect follow-up questions to any and all of those and esp. the last 3, which are behavioral interviewing questions.

I doubt you will get any "medico-legal" questions. Honestly, I've been interviewed for staff positions in various depts at multiple hospitals and I have very rarely gotten a question in the medico-legal/ethics area. About the closest they ever come is, perhaps, asking if I understand the confidentiality and privacy expectations of the position. As soon as I answer, "Yes, of course," they continue on with other questions.

Thanks a lot. Also I dont need to bring a resume since its just a volunteer position right?

Also what are some good responses for, "do you have any q's for me"

I guess I would just say something like, "What are the typical responsibilities assigned to volunteers at this hospital?"

I wouldn't think that way. Many of these positions are actually quite competitive. Treat it as a job interview. Don't cut corners. Bring an updated resume targeted to this position packaged in a nice little black folder ($5 at Target) like you would to any other job interview. These are the easy things -- the things you CAN control. Get an edge where you can. To not do so is just plain stupid! Your goal is to knock the socks of this volunteer coordinator.

I'd suggest www.google.com

Bring it, but it won't be needed. Most of the questions you'll see have been covered. Some others could be:
-What are your greatest strengths/weaknesses?
-What do you do outside of pre-med related activites?
-Why have you indicated XYZ department as your preference?
-What's your availability like in a given week?

Which hospital are you interviewing at? If it's one of the biggest two on campus, I've interviewed/volunteered at both. PM me if you have any additional questions.

me too 🙂
Were you guys volunteering at community hospitals? I've also been wondering what kind of questions I'd be asked at interviews, and from checking out some of the bigger teaching hospitals' websites, they actually seem to be pretty particular in terms of what they're looking for in volunteers.
