Hi Everyone,

I have taken the OAT before and am planning on testing again in early fall to increase my scores and apply for the 2010 admissions cycle.

Obviously, I was not impressed with my scores so I am unsure if the way I have studied is effective. I know everyone posts "I studied for a month before...intensively!" or "I studied my butt off four four months!" ...but what are you DOING? Are you re-reading your old course notes? Doing flashcards? Just attempting OAT problems?

I'm giving myself another shot. I need your help to know what WORKS! Please, those of you that have scored above average, please help!

Thank you all so much.

Get your hands on old tests. Get Kaplan OAT books from 03' to present (these are cheap) and take the practice test SERIOUSLY. Don't use a calculator and TIME YOURSELF. Take the practice test ALL AT ONCE, its the best way to simulate test day and the fatigue you will feel towards the end.

Go back and grade the test. Find the problems you are messing up on, go to that subject, and work on it until you can go through the practice test and get a score that is satisfying.

That is the best way to study for the OAT.

Spend more time doing that if you're unhappy with your score. I think reviewing the practice problems that you have done is the most important part. It's not useful if you don't truly understand why you got the question wrong.
Once you have a basic understanding on the materials, I think you can use logic to answer most questions. You can't memorize everything that will be covered on the test.
