Jet flys..

Cool pics, Boys!!

Gotta call Chi and have him walk me thru the Image Shack stuff so I can get more deft at posting pics.

Two of my passions have been at the forefront lately:

1)Fishing: Went to Cocodrie, Louisiana last Sunday with a few buddies....fishing the Louisiana intercoastal....caught ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE trout in three hours. 😱

The fishermen out there will appreciate that.

I could throw a cast net before I could ride a bike...grew up in Florida...and the type of fishing I experience here in Louisiana is unobtainable anywhere else.

We were all using the same lure made by H&H....each of us had a double rig, so sometimes each of us were pulling up two trout at a time...

Thats right, no live bait needed....

2)Poker....flying to Vegas June 22nd....the World Series of Poker's season finale is at the Rio every year...this year they have big tournaments from June 1st thru July 17th...

I'm playing in Event 38, a $1500-buy-in No Limit Holdem event.

Phil Helmuth won his 11th bracelet a few days ago in a similar event...

...so I'm gonna be playing with the big boys this time. Unlike the WSOP tourney I cashed in here in New Orleans in May, where the field was 322, the field in the tourney I'm playing in will be several thousand. 1st place will likely be seven-hundred-large...final 300 or so will cash.

Wish me luck...

....I'd love to come back to New Orleans and use my new knowledge of Image Shack to post a pic of me at the final table!!!!!

I love playing hockey. I only skate once a week right now, but grew up playing all the time. Actually, we have a team of mostly med students and residents. So, it's great being able to bounce stuff off the other dudes.

The best part about hockey (any sport really) is how good you feel afterwards. I can be as stressed out as hell, but it's like it puts everything back in perspective. A great "escape".

I think tennis is the greatest sport on earth - and here is why...

You may have wrestled in high school/college, but when was the last time you called your buddy and said "Hey, put on your tights and come on over. Let's wrastle!" It just doesn't happen.

Although basketball is an awesome sport, rarely do I see anybody over 40 on the court. Occasionally, yes....but mostly numbers drop significantly after the age of 30 or so.

Football is great also, but again, it is hard to get people together and suffers from the limitations already mentioned about the other sports.

Golf isn't really a sport. I know people are going to try to kill me for saying this, but come on....what are the METS listed for golf, what are they for a singles game of tennis?

What is the greatest moment in baseball? It is when they say "batter up" and you finally get to swing the bat. This happens very little, despite how long you have to sit in right field. In tennis, you are "up to bat" every other shot!

Finally, tennis is a life long sport. I once was in a tennis tourney and the guy I met in the final was 82 years old. He couldn't move well of course but if he got the racquet on the ball, I was done with - a deep slice in the corner (all old guys hit slices. I think it is against the USTA policy to hit a top spin shot after the age of 50).

I like blowing people/stuff up in HD

Sushi

Cold beer

Pumpin the Guns

Music, music, and more music. I just can't play a fargen thing.

Jet flys....I like to fly near the ground....here are some pics from my road racing class with Kevin Schwantz at Road Atlanta.

Man you're a freakin lifestyler 😀:meanie:

Me: sports skiing, basketball, travel... no one passion but an interest in a lot of things...

Im a motorcycle rider as well. Now and fast!

I ride a Honda fireblade (1000cc). Great fun!

Harley Davidson, Soft Tail Heritage Classic, black

I like them slow and loud.

MMA/brazilian jiu-jitsu (won't be much time for this stuff anymore with internship starting)

poker (not nearly as good as jet)

fitness/sports in general (you guys should all try the workouts on crossfit.com; short but very intense!)

Pizza & beer!!

Working out - always fun when I have the time
Poker - When you school is 45 mins from Commerce its kinda tough not to play

600 yd slow-fire long-range competition rifle shooting.

i'm planning on entering the national nra tournament next year (2008), after i have a little more time and accessibility to practice. my current rifle of choice is a savage 300 win mag rifle with a leupold mark 4 scope. (i'm eventually hoping that i can convince my wife to let me get a 50 bmg 😀 ). right now, i'm pretty damn accurate from 200 yards (5 shot spread consistently less than 1 moa), but have a hard time getting out to the long range because the closest 1,000 meter range (which has a competition 600-yard course) is 2 hours away. fortunately, where i'm heading to has one that's closer. this past spring, i recently placed 4th in my age group (out of 97 entrants) at a locally-sponsored statewide competition at the 100-yd range using my browing t-bolt 22 lr competition rifle. not bad on a windy day. 😉

Surfing the anesthesia student-doctor net forum.

What kind of trout??? Don't they have limits down there?? I'm on my way to the airport.

Come on, do you choose your recreation based on number of METS? I love golfing because it is the endless pursuit of perfection. I can play any hole in the world as good as Tiger Woods and hit nearly any shot that he can hit, but I can't for the life of me string it together for 18 holes. No matter how much you struggle in golf, there is always that one shot here or there that is just perfect that keeps you coming back for more. It's really quite addictive.

If I just want to burn calories I'll go run or play hockey or basketball.

Golf is also as lifelong an endeavor as anything.

I also play the drums... Never organized into a band though. Anyone else play any instruments??

Yamaha FZ6

Ride road bike x6 days/wk.

2 questions:

1) Did you really run the 100 miles? ( I have recently become as physically fit as I have ever been by a long shot and my ability to ride (mtn bike) forever just to get to some sick untouched downhill, has encompassed my every desire). (I can go literally "all day or more" just to ride.)
PS: winter is a whole nother beast. I'll do anything for fresh tracks "freshies". Skinned in one whole day to dig a hole in 9' of snow just to board some fresh track for as long as I wished. I left 3 days latter only because i had to return to work. So, 100 miles is one hell of an accomplishment but couldn't you find something better to do with all that time?

2) You do all this with a "CHIHUAHUA"? Alright, I call bullsh*t.

Yes, have done two 100s. Done a lot more 50s. Longest bike ride was 160 miles when I was 17 and trashed off my ass and I never left LA (long story).

There is the leadville 100 MTB race, that would be cool.

I want to run and/or bike the White Rim some day. Maybe we can hook up?

If you are a runner, the best run in the world is a double crossing of the GRand Canyon, in a day.

Some for backcountry, maybe I can meet up around some CMEs in the next year or two. Sounds like you are very fit. It would be fun to do a ton of laps together.

2) You do all this with a "CHIHUAHUA"? Alright, I call bullsh*t.

Unfortunately, my chi can only run with me when I run SLOW. SHe has done up to 12 miles running. In terms of hiking, she can hike indefinitely. I think her record is around 16 miles.
NExt week to celebrate the end of internship, we are hiking for 10 days. The first trip is a 60 mile loop. THe Mountain chi is gonna bust some **** up.

Just dropped my piss at the drug screen. Welcome to anesthesia!

Day off before my last 48 hours of wards

Decided to push my envelop a little

5300 ft ascent in 2:55:00
Summit Mt Hood 11239 ft
Descent on skinny skis

Drove 60 miles
Drank 3 shots of espresso
9 liters of water

Ran 20+ miles of trail
2000 ft of elevation
88 degrees in the lowlands

Avg HR for 8 hrs in the 150s

44.5 hours until I never have to work up vitamin D deficiency again

Funny. I thought the anesthesia depts. never tested for drugs since they don't want to lose half their workforce.

Screening exam by the university.

Had to take when for prelim medicine too.

I wonder how many actual anesthesi programs screen themselves?

Whatever the primary objective, I think this is a good move.

Anesthesia cannot deny the commonality of addicted breatheren.

And if you've got a potential problem coming in, you may need to consider another specialty.

Incessant access to opiods as a specialty is not good for potential addicts.

Yeah, that sounds like the obvious.

But I think, if looking retrospectively, most drug addicted anesthesiologists couldve eliminated their problems by not going into the specialty in the first place.

Had they had more education about addiction in medical school.

An analogy: HOW MANY MS-4s OUT THERE LOOK AT THEIR CLASSMATES GOING INTO PSYCHIATRY AND SAY TO THEMSELVES: "THAT DUDE WAS CRAZY TO BEGIN WITH?????"

Yes, an observation of mine from the dudes/dudettes going into psych in my medical school class. Most of them were crazy to begin with....just an opinion.....looking for feedback....and not just from PSYCH residents.....

JPP,
Think you are right about drug testing. As much as I hate it. I don't mind pissin'- although it would be nice if it only tested for drugs of abuse, anesthesia opioids, and skipped the KRonic!

There were two residents at my home program who ended up losing their gas residency because of fentanyl addiction. VERY INTERESTING, both were seemingly upstanding church going types that did not swear, etc. One developed untreated chronic pain from a shoulder injury, not sure on the other.

A lot of time, the one you should be worried about is not the obvious one. I don't need opioids. I run 1-10 hours a day, thereby providing an endorphin gtt for quite some time. (and it doesn't cause constipation or miosis)

A different kind of biking (more along the lines of Noyac's post):

Curtlo_1.jpg

I know you were showing your bicycle, but did you do that drawing of a hand in the background??

Wow - that's beautiful! Whoever did it is very, very talented.

That hand pic looks like the one that M.C. Escher did - that guy does some cool sketches.

Sorry for the late reply (just saw sdn1977's question): as ppisklak indicated, this is a reproduction of an MC Escher sketch (I'm an Escher fan...he did some very cool stuff...).

Nice bikes as well. Almost as pretty as the hand or maybe the other way around.
