There is a ton of information given on this website. But how much of it is actually reliable? It seems to me that people are spouting off '"information" to people who come here with answers, yet they don't really know what they are talking about. I doubt that everyone on this website is an admissions committee member or has some sort of inside connection to a pharmacy school, but if someone did, it would be good to know it.

Use this thread to post what qualifications you have that would make your advice actually useful and reliable. This way, your posts can actually be given some credit.

I can bench 200 lbs.

I think when you go into any forum, you have to realize that the information you're reading may not always be true. No one should read this site thinking that everything on here is fact.

However, this is a useful resource for some people with questions that they can't answer. Now I agree with many people that the search function is not used enough (seriously it's like people don't even try, they just post) and more people could stand to read the pharmacy FAQ more, but for school based posts like what happens during the interview, how long it typically takes to hear back, etc this forum is very useful. I've been to a few interviews, and I've posted interview feedback on those schools. Many people on the forums are P1 or P2 students who can give advice to those of us applying now.

Lastly for the people who post the generic is my PCAT or GPA high enough, look at the PharmCAS page or school site to see if there are any requirements you do not meet. Then look at your schools thread, try to get an idea of the stats of the people who are getting interviews/accepted. Then call the school if you still have questions.

But if you're looking for adcoms of schools on this site, I doubt you'll find any

I didn't expect to find any of that. I don't put much faith in many of the posts here, but I was kind of hoping someone with some sort of legitimate credentials would be here.

I don't think anyone comes here expecting someone from admissions to be here answering their questions. This is a forum where anyone can post so of course you shouldn't expect everything to be true. A lot of questions here are repeat questions, and the people that answer them have experience answering the questions cause they've been through it themselves.

No, someone can't tell you for sure if you will or will not get in with a 2.5 GPA and a 70 PCAT, but maybe they can give you some advice on how to stand out or what you need to do in order to be a better applicant. I use the forums to see where other people are in the process. Like if someone that interviewed on the same day that I did receive any notification from the school. That way I have an idea that I should be expecting something soon. I start a post if I can't find the answer by searching or on the school's website.

By the way, I think you asking people to list what qualifications they have to answer questions on this forum is a little dumb. Like I said, anyone can post here. They shouldn't have to tell you why they feel they can answer questions, and even if they did, how do you know they're telling the truth?

Honestly I agree. I mean, people say for the PCAT you have to look at the composite and mine was pretty bad if it's true, I got a descent GPA, not extremely high, and I still got an interview. I think some are lying..

Most people are giving advices based on their own experiences with the application +admission process.

🙄

If you are so much smarter then why come on here? just answer your own questions. 👎thumbdown👎

*Note: coming on SDN to call everyone here stupid isn't a smart move on your part...🙄

Looks like you're looking for answers in the wrong places. This forum is valuable for information that people share and tips that are useful for not having to pay anything or having to do anything. While this forum can be almost entirely opinion-related, everyone should realize that what someone says here is not 100% set in stone.

People dont come here to show what qualifications they have. They come here to try and help people get into pharmacy school.

I have a phD from the harvard school of pharmacy school advice giving. On top of that I have surrounded myself with hundreds of professionals that have helped me build my knowledge base. I know over 20 pharmacist personally whose brains I have picked, one of my bosses is a preceptor for a pharmacy school, I know countless pharmacy interns and student as well as their backgrounds and academic numbers, I know that I didn't start posting and giving advice until I knew what I was talking about, but I know no one on here is always right. And yes. No one, not even someone on the admission commitee could tell you from a two paragraph post if you will get accepted or not. I also know for some reason you bug the hell out of me. I'm also pretty sure you don't have many friends. Sad... What are your credentials?

Wow, you guys completely missed my point.

People could have simply put, "I have given this advice because I applied to school X/I talked with an admissions employee at school Y/I am the son of god/etc." Wouldn't it be nice to know where some of this information is coming from?

Hmmm, let me see if I got this right...

You want people to post the source of their information, but at the same time, you don't have faith in the posts.

Ok, I'll give it a whirl.

I am the son of God and because of this I know that atticus27 is being very modest. He doesn't bench 200, it's more like 275. And in order for you to get into the pharmacy school of your choice you will need at least a 3.9 gpa and 95 pcat just to get an interview. Now, if you want to be accepted, you will news to dazzle my brother, who is on the ad com there. You will need to have graduated with your BS degree in 1 year, while at the same time putting in 500 hours volunteering at your local children's hospital in their NICU unit satelitte pharmacy.

Jumbopharm09,

Yes, it would be really nice to know where we all get our info. from, but that's not realistic. Think about it. This is an anonymous forum, not a research paper. Giving details on who we spoke to and what was talked about may potentially compromise our identity. Most of us want to help one another on our pharmacy school applications, but at the same time, keep our identity anonymous.

Expecting everyone to include a source for every post is too much to ask for. If you really want to know the source for a particular post, why don't you (PM = private message) the member who posted?

For now, you won't receive too many helpful responses by complaining.

So, ask more of what you can do to find the source you seek and demand less from others.

Seriously. If it looks and smells like s**** then its probably s****. If it looks like gold then bite it to see if its real. But really, who in the hell goes to a freaking forum for the be all end all source of information?

But if you really want to know the most arcane secret of all of pharmacy related goods, then just pm OperatingThetan. He will disclose unto you the secrets of the universe, and beyond.

Another way you can figure out how reliable a post is is by consensus. If someone is wrong about something and giving bad advice they will almost always get called on it. I noticed someone in a post a while ago said only psychiatrists could prescribe antidepressants. They got corrected by the very next poster. And if three complete strangers both agree on a topic I'd take it as pretty reliable.
