i'll be the broken record that says pick the cheaper one. if its UNC then go there and you can be close to home (assuming you want or need that.) Meanwhile if OSU is cheaper and you dont mind living that far away then go there.

I honestly dont know much about these schools, but I always want to give the financial aid advice first. Because time and time again it seems that a lower debt is the best option in the long term.

They're both good schools. Go with your state residency and whatever has a cheaper price tag.

One thing to take into consideration is where you would like to practice after you get out of school (or military). The connections made in dental school in that area can make or break a future associateship or purchase. For instance, if you plan on working in the southeast I would say the UNC name carries more weight versus the iron belt where OSU would win out...

Im not too familiar with OSU's program, but every dentist I have consulted concerning my decision has said UNC hands down. Not just because they are instate for me, and its cheaper/lower living expenses (which makes a difference with or without a military scholarship) but the clinical strength of the university is known nationwide...

And I agree with your consideration. Stay here, UNC. Even nationwide for that matter really. But couldn't you say same for OSU? Nationwide at least?

With regard to the in-state tuition, I'm former military, OSU provides immediate instate tuition for prior military with honorables.

I think UNC or ohio state u can't really make a bad choice both are great schools. I really think wherever u plan on practicing up north or down south means more like mentioned before. Connections are priceless when getting set up after dental school. just my opinion.

Yeah...this decision will come down to personal choice....whats good for you, your family, and where you want to be...also keep in mind that most dental practices you start and stay for the long haul (+/-20 years in one location) to build your brand etc....thats why its important to know where you may want to go to school, make connections, and settle down...

The pros/cons list really made it clear where I should go...I told myself to think of ten positive things about each school in one minute (kinda a gut response)...UNC was the only school I could think of ten!!...haha choice made...

I think OSU has a great reputation up in that area...just like UNC does in the southeast...I just am not that familiar with their clinical program since I am not surrounded by buckeye hype...

Also, think long term about demographic trends...where are areas that are growing?...what states/cities are losing residents? Median age? Income levels? Occupations? Where are the baby boomers going? Some may laugh at this but they are the ones with disposable income to pay for pros, perio, and preventive care well into their 70's/80's... These have a big impact on the long term success of a practice.

Also, maybe visit UNC, or both schools over the break and bring some of your concerns ot light with a staff member....this may help clarify things since you will only be comparing two schools instead of looking at 8-12 over the application process....best of luck bud...
