I saw this on the medical forum and thought it was hilarious. I know we are all very smart. very driven, and very well put-together. However, I know there is more to me than what is on my app. Does anyone have any wierd not socially acceptable habits or whatnot about you?
Ill start, Im obsessed with the Antiques Roadshow and Martha Stewart Living (when it was still on). What makes my day is when someone goes on the Antiques Roadshow for an appraisal and talks about how precious they think it is and it turns out to be completely worthless. I like to watch their faces as they get all huffy. I love watching Martha Stewart because I think she has some really good ideas. However, I think its funny when her guests and her are not getting along, and they are trying to deal with it on TV. I remember one time I was watching a Thanksgiving special and Jennifer Garner was on, they hated eachother so much, she magically disappeared after the commercial break

Well I have a couple of weird habits. When I get nervous, stressed out, or really tired I always twirl my hair. I've got really long blonde hair and it drives my mom crazy when I do it. Have you guys seen that show Motormouth on VH1 where they tape people singing in their car? I should so be on that show, I'm constantly singing and dancing in my car. It makes people in the cars next to me at a stoplight laugh so I'm still going to do it as long as it makes someone smile!

I love to pop my back and neck, although i've never been to a chiropractor in my life...

I love doing that. My favorite way is to bend my back over something to get a good pop out of it. Although last week some guy hit me head on in the ice and now my back hurts all the time. Running is pretty much unbearable.

I have a tendency to remove my prosthetic leg and beat others over the head with it...

LOL. I assume you are just kidding, but maybe you are serious. Hopefully it's not your wife and kids. (Yo. Just between you and me, you're not a wife beater right?) j/k. Don't PM with the answer to this question

Anyway. Mmmph. Most interesting thread, weird habits. Let me think... sometimes I'll drink wheat grass juice from Jamba Juice. Usually when I'm stressed, I also get pretty harsh and critical with myself, so I want to do something to cause physical pain - as if emotional grief can be transformed into physical relief. Drinking wheat grass is nasty because it is the scent of a fresh cut lawn in the middle of May. By drinking this nasty stuff, I feel like I'm hurting myself. Yeah, healthy masochism during time of stress.

Now seriously folks, who's going to post the most weird habits. So far, nothing I've seen has been extraordinarily weird.

Come on, stand up and be counted!!!

I also have a wierd health thing I do when I get a bad grade. Freshman year, whenever I got a B in gen chem homework, I would hit the tredmil for an hour. I would cry in my room and say while I was getting ready, "if Im going to be stupid, Im NOT going to be fat!"
This isnt such much of a habit, but something I do when Im bored itis pretty damn embaressing. When I am REALLY damn bored at home, I play Oregon Trail(old school) and rename all the people after my ex boyfriends. Either that or I go on neopets. Oh the shame...

I get so nostaligic when I think about my good ol' freshman crossdressing days...

I have a bad habit of putting things in my mouth to hold them. One instance that comes to mind was when we were in the dental lab doing our root canals on extracted teeth. I wouldn't wear my mask, and I was filing away and went to reach for the ole clorox and put the file in my mouth to hold it while I was squirting away. My classmate seen it and started to scream etc... Bad thing was I had the plastic handle end on the outside and the file on the inside!!!!! Needless to say that broke my habit quickly, and I used about a quart of the schools "listermint"!!!

I put a little scotch in my coffee before I leave for school every morning.
I have a huge man-crush on Alan Greenspan.

I imagine if it can be quite humorous if one of you ex comes down with typhoid, got lost from playing, drowned in crossing a river, or whatever. Mmmph, that can be quite cathartic, perhaps.

Another thing I do, (which doesn't fit the thread because my habit isn't weird, in fact quite common) is to play comupter games or arcades. Starcraft anyone? Man that game requires some quick hands and concentration. Full concentration when I play.

When doing the former, does your thingy ever hit the carpet?

yeah 😀

You know, I would say that is a weird habit dWiz. But also a bit of an overshare....

OOOooo, weird habits and crazy, personal things. I really don't have any. Let's see here: I'm addicted to SDN which my family doesn't understand at all. I'm a news junkie and can't get enough of NPR ( I used to check out NY Times and CNN.com to see if any new politcal outrageousness or tragic events had unfolded in the past hour). Before I go to bed check my schedule for the next day several times, I routinely check my pocket for my car keys, my watch is set five minutes fast and I make a point to be early to everything according to its time. Wow, that was therapeutic!

Before going to bed, I turn all chairs so they're not facing me. I blame this on a childhood friend who told me that it was "bad luck" to sleep with chairs facing you. I won't go on with her story because it freaks me out just thinking about it.

Oh yeah, I also make sure my bed is oriented in such a way so that my feet do not face the door. I think it's a feng shui thing.

Wow. I'm pretty gullible.

I make sure my closet doors are closed before I go to sleep. I don't like anything high in my bedroom because in the dark, it looks like someone standing. I need to brush my teeth before I start studying (a refreshing feeling you know). I love to wake up early, couple hourse before sunrise even though I don't always do it.

This sleep stuff made me realize/remember that I can't stand to sleep with my door open - it must be closed. I had a girlfriend that had to have it open and if it wasn't she would freak out....conflicts, oh the conflicts....

This is a wierd habit I completely forgot to mention. But I hate the feeling of seams against my feet and groin area, so I wear my socks and underwear inside out. I think it feels smoother when I wear them inside out.

I have to go to sleep with socks on. Not to mention, I need to have socks on 24/7 except when I'm taking a shower or swimming.

Wow... some interestingly weird habits...

I have a habit of suddenly widening my mouth open... When I say widening, I dont just mean dropping my jaw, I mean dropping my jaw and stretching my cheeks so that my mouth is circle shaped rather than oval shaped... (it's such a great feeling, try it yourself! *just dont make sure people are around watching you, they tend to freak out...*)

When I step into rooms, I always try and place my right foot in first before my left...

I can only ever sit down with one person sitting next to me, if I have 2 people sitting next to me side by side, I feel suffocated... Hence, back in the days of school trips, I made sure to sit near the window to prevent myself from thinking that I was going to die... This is another reason why I always get into the cinema half-an hour early before the movie starts, so that I get to sit on an "edge seat"...

I'll add some more if I can think of some more later...

Your right foot enter room first is most unexpected.
Here is my match...
Walking on the sidewalk, and feeling a subtle need to week between those man-made-concrete-lines-that-prevent-cracking-during-extreme-weather if you know what I mean. Other people have this habit too?

After reading this tread, I started noticing myself doing things you described that I didn't do before 😱

I don't this any more, but when I used to eat I would have to use both sides of my mouth evenly. This meant that I would have to eat an even amount of food or bites. One Goldfish on the right side, one goldfish on the left side... etc. Does anyone else do this? I used to think it was totally normal.

I totally used to do that when I was little too! I had to chew gum evenly on both sides of my mouth. I would split the gum in two pieces and so both sides of my mouth could be chewing.

This reminds me of what my oral surgery chief told us during my first week of residency: "That pager better be on your hip at all times...except for the 3 S's: Showering, Swimming, and Sex."

Fortunately, I don't shower. Or have sex for that matter...

how about not wearing anything at all? 😀 It would be very comfortable 👍

has anyone eating cereal with chocolate milk? My friends made fun of me about this all the time but I love the sweetness of chocolate milk in my cereal. Cannot stand white milk and its blunt taste.

Sometimes I google myself to see if I did anything noteworthy.

I'll have to try that. Have you tried cereal with soymilk? Yummy.

It's cool that you are open-minded and willing to try. I love soy with cereal. It makes the whole bowl extra sweet.

Did it work? I've actually tried that, but with a generic name like mine (sigh) such searches have always turned up rather fruitless.

Actually, it all started a few years ago when I saw an article written about my lame presentation from a conference in Toronto (the article was on Auntminne.com). And then, just recently, "I found myself" on Scienceblog.com (re: a manuscript from 2003).

As for generic names, it could be worse. Apparently my first name is pretty well known in the world of porn.

Jenna?

hmmm, i dont know about wierd habbits, but i sure do have a lot of bad habbits; I will only take the liberty to mention two:
1. I curse profusely in 3 languages.
2. I have absolutely no respect for authority.

I always sing along with the radio when I'm driving. However, I don't drive anymore, so I don't sing either.

I used to have to highlight my notes in rainbow order while in dental school. Pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and finally purple if I had a purple highlighter on hand - purple highlighters are hard to come by.

I like to watch movies with the closed captioning on, but only when I'm watching them by myself. The closed captioning always tends to annoy others if I'm not the only one watching the movie. But I like to think of this as my "secret single behavior - SSB" as described on "Sex and the City" and not as a "wierd habit." Whatever, I know it's odd.

Kind of like I read Playboy for the articles...

Do you attribute each color to a certain aspect of the notes, or you just do it for the fun?

You see, for me, I will use yellow for first run through, then underline it with orange to indicate important material. Sometimes I will use arrows on the side to really emphasize the material. I'm curious to learn how you highlight.

After I set my alarm clock I have to check it over and over and over before I can relax and go to bed.
