I am finishing up a GPR and have been offered a position and upon reading the contract I have questions about several of the terms. I am going to have a lawyer review but woukd like to know from other associates what you think is fair. So here goes:
If paid on collections or production should you receive a daily salary the first x weeks?
Should employer provide budget for CE?
Should employer provide malpractice?
Should employer provide minimum daily compensation?
What mile radius and time frame is appropriate in a medium sized metropolitan area?
What penalty is appropriate for breaking non-compete or confidentiality? I'm certainly not planning on breaking them but people can contrue most documents the way they wasn't to.
Anything else I should be wary of or burned you?

The amount that you're going to make is all depending on the going rate in your area. If you have extra perks (malpractice, CE, etc.), you will tend to make slightly less percentage. Do you have an offer. If you do, post the terms and we'll be able to give you a little bit more guidance. Keep in mind that I've got a couple of years under my belt, so my "bargaining power" is a little different than a total newbie.

I take the higher percentage. I also maintain my own malpractice. I pay my own CE unless the owner decides that it'll help the practice.

Typically, 30-35% of collection is fair with lab fee dependent on the total percentage. Try to get a daily minimum. $500-$600 is fair, but depends on the area. 5 miles for 1-2 years is fair for a medium metropolitain area. It will be smaller for more densely populated area and larger in the boonies. Penalty can be anything. I was once offered a contract that said $50k if I broke noncompete. Needless to say, I didn't sign it.

I've ben burned by never getting paid on collections after I left a job. So always keep a little cushion if you planning on leaving a job.

BUt if you can post your stats in your contracts, we would probably be able to weigh in more.
